Hello, i'm johnfarson and i'm new here to the forum. Over the past 2 weeks i've had a problem where my browser begins to work sporadically. I'll have complete access and no problems with any pages for about an hour and then I will suddenly lose the ability to see pictures on pages, or I will lose the ability to acccess pages without constant refreshes. At the same time, I hear multiple clicking noises, like a popup blocker is blocking things, and I will then lose the ability to access certain images on a page and the page itself. Whatever this problem might be, it has caused problems with my browsing and internet experience. I dont know what to do as I have lost the ability to access the net for more than an hour and a half at a time. Thanks again for your and please find my log at the bottom of this message. Thank you.

Hello,
johnfarson here, new to the forum. I have a problem where I'm losing the ability to view both Explorer and Firefox after about an hour. After an hour the only way I can view either of these browsers is through constant refreshes. For Explorer, I lose the ability to view pictures and certain page details after about 45 minutes and this is accompanied with clicking noises that sound like a pop up blocker. As for Mozilla, in the same amount of time I lose the ability to access any website without great difficulty. I really don't know what happened but i can only suspect malware, or some really devious spyware. Please find my Hijackthis log file enclosed in the bottom.

Hello, johnfarson here with a problem. I've had a problem with my Internet explorer for the past 2 weeks and it has gotten to the point where i almost dread going on to the Net. My connection stays stable for about an hour and then it all of a sudden develops problems accessing websites and displaying pictures on sites. These problems are accompanied by clicking
noises that sound like a popup blocker. In the bottom left I get script error messages, and my Explorer puts up error messages that the search page could not be opened. Before this Search error message appears, I often have a problem where the computer will attempt multiple searches for the same website going from .net to .org, to .com, and then Error.
I really have no idea what happened here but I can assume that this is a pretty bad case of spyware. Please assist me in this matter.
Thanks

Hello

Im not seeing any of the recent spyware/gots or trojans, however it would be good to see an online scan report as mentioned here (if possible)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288

I lose the ability to view pictures and certain page details after about 45 minutes and this is accompanied with clicking noises that sound like a pop up blocker

Noise from the monitor , inside the PC or from its speaker ?

Lonny, the noise is coming from the computer itself. I get a multiple clicking noise at times as a page is downloading, and then boom, I'm missing pictures on the page and other materials. In the place of the pictures are red "x's". On a new topic, I recently discovered some high security risk items in an AVG spyware scan, they conisted of a google toolbar downloader in a few different files. i deleted these.
Here are the results of My Panda Scan:

Spyware:Cookie/adultfriendfinder Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Graczyk\Cookies\chris graczyk@adultfriendfinder[2].txt
Spyware:Cookie/Go Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\ChrisGraczyk\Cookies\chris graczyk@go2].txt
Spyware:Cookie/Maxserving Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Graczyk\Cookies\chris graczyk@maxserving[2].txt
Potentially unwanted tool:Application/Processor Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\Process.exe

I'll wait for any advice you have to give me. If you want a HackThis log I'll put it in the next post.
Thank you

I believe its hardware related, it would probaly be best to take the pc to a local pc shop and get it checked.

Lonny,
In your experience, have you encountered any hardware problems that would cause a PC to lose Internet stability every two hours? If you have, please give me a few examples so I can give some advice to the guys in the shop. This to me seems like spyware still as I had a problem where something tried to install itself and I closed the window before it could finish. Instead of the window closing, the window was just sucked into the bottom right of my desktop. I'm going to post a hijackthis log and I would like you to take a look to see if there is anything out of ordinary.

The odd noise and the browser problems sounds to me like a hardware problem, perhaps video card related.

johnfarson
2006-10-15, 02:33
I'm pretty sure this isnt a hardware problem. I've tested my ATI videocard and everything is working. Also, right now, my entire computer is running slow from startup to desktop functions. I can no longer access My Computer or My Documents without a lag of a few seconds. I really think there is something infested in my computer and I need some advice on a program or programs to get it out. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you

Sorry,
Forgot to mention also that i have an HP laptop, and that the noises are then coming out of the computer's speakers, not the monitor. When the volume is not on, I cannot hear any noises. So the noises I'm hearing from the browser are probably the result of an infection. I'm only telling you this because you mentioned a monitor in a past post and I do not have one. Dunno if this helps at all.

Post a combofix log
1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
If the log is large You might need to post half in one reply half in another.
---------------

Download and run Silentrunners.Vbs post the log it creates please
http://www.silentrunners.org/sr_scriptuse.html click no to not skip the suplimentry searchs
Wait until there is a All Done message !!, Then open and post the log next to it.
Your antivirus script protection might interfear or alert, please allow it to run after a bit box will say done.

here are the results of my combofix log, on a sidenote, whenever I run an adaware scan, at the end of the scan I get a loud strange noise. I wanted to know if that was a bad thing, and if so should I download a different version. Or are AVG anti-spyware and Spybot S&D enough?

Well
I ran blacklite and nothing showed up. As for that winrar file you inquired about, it was a zip file that I downloaded which contained the winrar program. I keep getting messages from that file telling me to buy a license, do you think that could cause problems like the ones I have? I haven't bought a license yet. Hmm. I also restored some old hijackthis files, take a look and tell me if you see anything.

I assume you downloaded winrar with your p2p
why folks would download anything from a p2p promgram when they can get it from the aurthors websites and be sure its clean
Programs downloaded from p2p are likely to be imbeded with as yet not detected spyware/trojans/viri

When did these problems start ?
what was it you did to the pc just prior to that ?
If not long ago simply use system restore to revert back atleast a few days before the problems started.

I didnt download winrar with my P2P, I downloaded it back in July. I started using P2P in the end of July. However, I am pretty sure that I didn't download it from the company, so there could be some problems there. I deleted the file and downloaded a new copy from the company but I'm not sure if that will help at all. These problems in my computer started the last week of September, and as of right now, I have been unable to restore my computer to some earlier dates. I will try to restore it to some time in August, but it is difficult. Also, I had the same problems even when I did try to restore it, (I tried to restore prior to consulting your forum), the internet would be fine for sometimes up to 3 hours and then it would revert to the problems I have now. I had some high risk application apppearing in multiple restore memory files, again, it was a google tool bar for the internet, I'm not sure if that is important at all. But, long story short, I've been having problems for about 3 weeks now, ever since some window for my "PC being at risk" was sucked into the bottom right of my desktop. That is when all these problems began. So any help you could give, I will take.
Thanks

Lets try setting your conntection to obtain dns servers automaticly
and using it's repair feature
In the windows control panel. Network Connections.
Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, choose repair wait a moment for that to finish, left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.

No thats clean

About my last suggestions , any luck ?

johnfarson

As far as the last suggestion went, not much has changed. However, I found a few other problems with my PC that I have since changed. But, I do have a final question for you. Would my having an Internet browser open for 24 hours a day, 3 days at a time, have had anything to do with the problems I described? Since I've stopped leaving my Internet browser open most of the problems have gone away. Thanks for all of your help and consideration.

Some people leave there pc on and connected for weeks at a time,
I usualy turn it off when it is not needed or restart at least once a day.
If that helps why not do that.

delete SmitfraudFix, its not needed.
