I have a extrememly dangerous virus on my computer that I can't remove. It is called PestTrap I cannot remove it. I had spybot search and destroy 1.2 installed and pest trap removed it. I also had ad-aware SE Personal and it removed it also. I cannot find them again to be able to load them in the computer. Can anyone please help me. When I go to the control panel to remove the pest trap it says that I have to close the program first and I am not able to close it.

I relied on SpyBot and was going to make a voluntary contribution to you.

Norton/Symantec’s have failed me so that I was happy to support an organization that showed a greater degree of professionalism. But then you failed me also for the second time.

The latest siege that went undetected and defenceless by you with no ability to recover was: Virus burst, Pest Trap and a bug that infected or rather created files called "pmmon.exe" and "pmsngr.exe". You found 2 bugs and said you had cured the problem but actually you hadn’t. You didn’t even touch them.

Anyway I had to buy Lavasoft’s latest offering but that didn’t work and then a range of other software which did. A combination of Spyware doctor, Smidt software, Spyhunter and AVG Spyware did the trick.

I don’t understand why you don’t have any specific problems for this listed. I thought you and other readers may also have gain from my experiences (which took a straight 8 hours to solve).

Virus burst and "pmmon" and "pmsngr" bug had various solutions posted in the Lavasoft forums but they were complicated and I think that Spyware doctor did the trick without further ado but since I used all of them I can’t be sure. I ran a combination of all of them and several times. I didn’t have to go to safe mode though I did try. Anyway happy infected-free computing to all.

Hello nicenick06.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with VirusBurst & PestTrap.

The Smit family of infections changes quite rapidly as you can see by the list of names here:
VirusBurst, SpywareStrike and other desktop type hijacks (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015)

Once infected with these nasties it often takes several tools to remove them, including Spybot-S&D.

I don't have enough information to go on here.

Which version of Spybot-S&D do you have?
Opening Spybot>Help>About will give you both the version and the latest detection update.

Which security programs were installed at the time of the infection.

Operating System.

Windows fully updated and patched?

If you would like to post a Spybot S&D log so that we can check the System please do the following:

Spybot-S&D version 1.4
Version 1.4 :Systems Supported (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html)

Close all browsers
Open SpyBot, check for and get any updates available
Check for problems and fix everything found in red
Then on the toolbar menu select mode and switch to advanced mode, on the left lower down select tools, and view report, ensure all the options are selected near the bottom except

Uncheck[ ] do not report disabled or known legitimate Items.
Uncheck[ ] Include a list of services in report.
Uncheck[ ] Include uninstall list in report.

Now select (near the top) view report.
Press export in the save in box choose a place such as your my documents folder, then in your next post near the bottom select the "browse" button; navigate to and attach or post that report.

Or:
Follow the instructions in this sticky topic to get a HJT log:
"BEFORE you POST" -Preliminary Steps and scanning with SPYBOT-S&D (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Then start your own thread in the malware forum and copy/paste the HJT log into the topic:
Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22)

Regarding Enigma SpyHunter please see:
Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#notes)

I am not familiar with "Smidt software"

Spyware Doctor is what did it for me too. I had to pay 30 bucks but it looks like it did the job. It still shows up in Spybot when I run it but the hijacking of my internet explorer and the pop-ups have stopped.

I agree with nicenick that information was hard to find and all the posting rules for someone infested with spyware should be less confusing. I was freaking out and didn't want to have to read a thousand different rules and regulations for posting and all these 30 pages of links to read. But anyway thank you nicenick you helped me figure out how to get rid of the spyware on my computer :bigthumb:

The topics at all help sites have been set up to guide people in as safe a manner as possible towards a clean machine.
Many thousands have been helped. :)

Of course the ideal would be for people not to get infected in the first place.
