please help me remove the file "mr. and mrs. smith.avi"

i downloaded what i thought was a movie and now any time I even think about touching this file, my computer slows to a crawl. if i try to delete it. i get a message saying the file is in use. even if i right click it and click on the file's properties, the cpu usage spikes to 98-99 percent and stays there until I restart. I got this file from a p2p. i have quit using the p2p software and uninstalled it. below is my hijackthis log. thanks

Welcome to the forum, if you still need help and have not resolved your issues elsewhere, let's start like this.

1) You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif

2) Appears this log is running in Safe Mode. I need to see all HJT logs in Normal Mode with everything enabled in MSConfig unless I request otherwise.

3) You have supplied little information about this item: mr. and mrs. smith.avi which does not appear in the HJT log. I need to know what the complete name of the file is (pathway), what program is locating it, and where does that program say it is located. Please also add any additional comments you think will help.

below is hjt log in normal mode. i have moved the hjt file to c:\hjt. the file in question pathway is as follows:
c:\documents and settings\stephen\my documents\my music\notoncd\Mr.and Mrs. Smith.avi

when you ask about "what program is locating it, and where does it say it is located" i am not sure i understand what you are asking for, my computer knowledge is limited and what i do know is about 12 years old. I see the file in windows and internet explorer in the path listed above. anytime I try to do anything to the file like delete or rename it, i get a message stating that another person or program is using the file. I close everything i can. i even end processes in task manager (only the ones that I know for sure are not related to keeping the computer running, like aol stuff and other programs that run my camera and printer) even if i just right click the file to look at its properties it slows the computer down and the properties never show up anyway. if i do a media search with windows media player, when it gets to the file, the media player stops responding. thank you

OK, thanks for that information, I knew you had to be seeing it somewhere. You have stated that you want the file removed, so before I look at the log, let's look at that file. c:\documents and settings\stephen\my documents\my music\notoncd\Mr.and Mrs. Smith.avi

If you want it gone from your computer there is no reason why you should not be able to delete it. Start by using Safe Mode:

Once in Safe Mode, navigate to the file and delete it. You need to look in that notoncd folder, if you need nothing in it, delete it also.

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.
