Hi Folks!

I just installed Norton Internet Security 2007 and during the install it popped a message that NIS 2007 is not compatible with Spybot S&D v1.4 and recommended I uninstall it. Well, I love Spybot and didn't want to uninstall it but I also didn't want any problems installing NIS so i reluctantly uninstalled Spybot.

I read the Comapibilty info here and it basically says that problem had been fixed but I'm wondering if that also applies to this very new version of NIS.

I love Spybot, the absolute best software of its kind, and don't want to run without it but I'm confused. Can anyone shed some light my way? Is anyone else running both NIS 2007 and Spybot?

Thank you!
Biff

Also,Norton put up this article in their knowledge base:

I'll add with edit:Sorry, misread your post.that article mentions Phishing Protection feature not functioning, but since you uninstalled Spybot, looks like everything would be okay now if you reinstalled Spybot,as far as I know.

Thanks, Zenobia!

That thread was *very* interesting to say the least!

I will re-install my beloved Spybot!

I've used both NIS and Spybot for years and have never had a problem with either but this is the first version of NIS that has popped a compatibility warning.

As a user of both products I'd hate to get caught in the middle of a "pissing contest" between the two companies.

Thank you!
Biff

IMHO, NIS 2007 is a major resource hog like most of Symantec's software. that's why I dont use 'em and find alternatives to NIS that use few system resources and run at optimal performance

if your PC has the horse power to run NIS 2007 then stick with it

Hey Biff,

Did you reinstall Spybot and, if so, is everything running okay? I am in the same situation you were when you originally posted.

simon_naji:

Although I do not use Norton Internet Security 2007 and can't personally attest to the compatibility between Norton Internet Security 2007 and Spybot, many people reported in the Either Safer Networking Ltd. or Symantec leaving the Anti Spyware Coalition... (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=7683) thread that they run both Norton Internet Security 2007 and Spybot together without a problem. In addition Symantec support evidently feels it is not an issue. Please see my response to your similar query in the Either Safer Networking Ltd. or Symantec leaving the Anti Spyware Coalition...
