On a laptop I am trying to clean, every attempt to install Spybot S&D ends with a failure to install. At first I got the message that the file was corrupt, but after testing on another machine I determined this NOT to be the case.

I changed the filename and the install procedure got as far as updating before terminating.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a piece of malware that might prevent Spybot from installing, or if this problem has been experienced by others.

Operating system is XP, and I installed AVG and Adaware SE and ran scans with them before moving on to Spybot. Spywareblaster has also been installed.

Any suggestions or ideas will be appreciated.

My suggestion is for you to start a topic in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22)

First run the on-line anti virus scan and get a HJT log as shown here:

"BEFORE you POST" -Preliminary Steps (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Let us know if you have any problems doing the above. :)
