Hi ndev2k and welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

You're quite badly infected...

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451)
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063)

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post :bigthumb:

i would like to clean it, it has only appeared after a full reformat so maybe i haven't got all the windows updates and other anti-virus/spyware programs installed before i have acquired this trojan.

I am quite happy to do a complete reformat if that is what it takes and there where no banking or accounting details on the pc so i look safe there.

I have a laptop that i can download the files to and then transfer them to the infected computer so it doesn't need to be connected.

what do you think the best course of action will be???

you're help is greatly appreciated

Hi again, I'll be happy to help you with the cleaning process :)
You don't have any protections there, that is why you're infected...

Before we can start the cleaning I need you to do something important.

Please download and install Windows XP Service Pack 1A -> Windows XP SP1a (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx)
NOTE! Do NOT install Service Pack 2 yet. We'll have to get you cleaned first

You don't seem to a firewall (http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=56#56) running, you must install one firewall.

These are good (free) firewalls: Sunbelt-Kerio (http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm)
ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/)
Sygate (http://http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3356)
Outpost (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1056)

You don't have an antivirus (http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=53#53) on your computer, you must install one antivirus.

These are good (free) antiviruses: AVG (http://free.grisoft.com)
Antivir (http://www.free-av.com)
Avast (http://www.avast.com)
When you're ready, please post a fresh HijackThis log to here, then we'll continue :bigthumb:
