Spybot is showing "crypt32chain" which some people seem to think is a Trojan and yet Spybot can't delete it, Windows Defender doesn't report it AVG Professional doesn't report it and a scan with Housecall didn't report it.
Should I be worried about it?
It would be great if an expert could get back to me.

Hi steam.
Thanks for replying. I'm relieved to learn that the Hijack log is clean!
I've been browsing the forum for ages and it's beginning to seem as if the crypt32 thing maybe isn't a problem after all!
The spybot log shows umpteen entries which I think are because I tried to delete it, so I'll not trouble you with it.
Perhaps you just be kind enough to confirm that there really should be an entry in System Startup:
System.ini---------------crypt32chain
Many thanks

Hi

Well... this is the legitimate winlogon entry you are concerned about :-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\crypt32chain]
"Asynchronous"=dword:00000000
"Impersonate"=dword:00000000
"DllName"=hex(2):63,72,79,70,74,33,32,2e,64,6c,6c,00
"Logoff"="ChainWlxLogoffEvent"

The dll name is written in hexadecimal (in bold above)

If you parse (translate the hex) it says ... crypt32.dll

which I presume is what you see in spybot :-

Located: System.ini, crypt32chain
command: crypt32.dll

Spybot shows these entries because malware can start from there ... but not in this case ...

I think you may be confusing it with the crypt32chain.dll which is a Trojan ...
