View Full Version : Zlob.Downloader removed?

BigAl 2005

Hi all new member here.

Over the weekend i updated S&D lastest defs and i found the Zlob.Downloader infection. As soon as hit the fix button the Spybot Reg alert would come up and the only option was to allow reg change as the deny button was greyed out.

Long story short, i am confident i have cleared it off my system now.. with the help of this forum and other info on the net. I have run CCleaner and HJT software and removed a few things and now both my anivirus software and S&D dont pick up any threat.

Could u have a look at my latest log from HJT and lemme know if all is ok. I already removed a few things, ssv.dll and LVSCOM ( or somthing like that)

Also reading up on things i installed Spyware Blaster software, do i have to open it each time i start my computer to make sure i am protected ? feel a bit silly for asking but thanking u guys and girls in advance.

I hear from all the info i should update to the latest Sun JAVA software, update 9. I tried clearing a file called JUSCHED was in with the other file LVSCOM in my Temp folder. Did i do the right thing?

I hope the above makes sense and would like to thank you again for taking the time to read this post and reply.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I see no evidence of zlob (Smitfraud) in the HJT log. Unfortunately most of this infection hides from HJT. These are the instructions we use to remove it:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015 if you need them. You can also use this tool, running only the "Search" function to be sure the infection has been removed if you wish:
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

I do see an out of date Java program that can get you infected, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\ <<< out of date

I will suggest the Desktop is not the safest place to run HJT from, it can be dangerous in untrained hands:
Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

For your information: ssv.dll - http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/ssv/
LVSCOM: little information from that spelling: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=LVSCOM

SpywareBlaster is a very good program that I run on all of my computers, here is a tutorial to help you benefit from the program and it will answer your questions:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial49.html

I suggest: System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

Unless you have a problem, there is no need to post again unless you wish to. Safe surfing...tash:) will close your topic in a few days.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanx very much for the reply,

I have already run the scmitfix in safe mode. One quick point, i have to log into safe mode via MSCONFIG.. SAFEBOOT. I have a SATA drive and when i use the F8 function i get 'Boot device menu'. Is this the correct method for SATA drives.?

Once again thanx very much. I shall go through the steps after the weekend just to double check, spending the weekend away.

I have no idea, I would ask their technical support that question. I can see of no reason myself why it would be different that any other.

Hello again,

I have run thru the fix steps again .. ust to be on the safe side. I forgot to mention in my original post that when i run the smitfraudfix in safe mode i get the following msg in the blue dialoge box once i select option 3 and its going thru the kill process. ' The system is unable to locate and delete the following files tmp1.txt'

Then on the next line says the same thing but has tmp2.txt

Is this normal ? should i be worried ?

My AV software and S&D say my system is clean

Thanks again

PS i am able to get in safe mode via F8 function just a bit tricky to time it right for some reason

I hear from all the info i should update to the latest Sun JAVA software, update 9. I tried clearing a file called JUSCHED was in with the other file LVSCOM in my Temp folder. Did i do the right thing? I hope it has nothing to do with the above. Can you post the complete text of the message for me to view? "Word for Word"

Some temp folders are used by Windows and can not be deleted, Windows just puts them back, but all others that are temp or tif files can be deleted. I often wait until I am in Safe Mode (doing maintenance like defragg) and I navigate to the temp stuff and delete it with no problem when nothing is running.

I have done the steps you suggestedand run smitfraudfix in safe mode

gives me the following msg in the blue dialoge box

Killing Process....
Generic Renos Fix..
Deleting Files....
The system cannot find the file tmp2.txt
The system cannot find the file tmp2.txt
Deleting Temporey Files
Registy Cleaning y/n

PS. on another note when i start my computer and log in while system tray is loading i get a red balloon saying that my system is at risk bacause my antivirus is off. However it happens very quick before it disapears and i have checked that my AV software seems to be running correctly .

Thanks again for the prompt response.

Try running System File Checker in the event a System File is missing or corrupt:
Start > Run, type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things. You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Let's run this scan to see if anything is hiding:
http://www.virusvault.co.uk/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/33/
Thanks to John McKenna for the tutorial. It is very important that you read and follow the directions carefully, then post the Report-Scan.txt

Thanks
