I have a laptop from work running windows 2000 xp pro. The modem speed is very slow on downloads from web pages and file downloads like spybot. It slows to about 100bps and times out. It is also sending info about 5times as fast(or slow) . Since I cannot download from the net can I burn a cd from another computer and install? Does the os have to be the same on both computers? any special advice? Some of the suspicious newly created application files are _x, thematrixhasyou, and mzustonedrv8, quxpw,hcjvnlu, v8vokk, if1, rmz, i now get a message on boot up
