Hi guys, back again ...
Since I stupidly allowed my 14 year-old nephew, (for the first and very last time), to have a couple of hours unsupervised use of my broadband , my Internet Properties home page address settings are being overridden by iesecurepage.com, which now opens every time I launch Internet Explorer.
This 'new' home page is in the form of a System Security Status: Warning which boils down to advising(?) the downloading and running of Intrusion Detection System (IDS software), whilst at the same time proudly listing its Official Partners as: Spy Heal, Pest Trap, The Spy Guard, Brave Sentry and Malware Wipe.
In addition to the iesecurepage.com page, a virus infection warning pop-up, which looks to all intents and purposes as if it is a genuine Microsoft-generated warning, also appears every time IE is launched.
This pop-up refers in great detail to the w32Myzor.FK@yf virus, (although it doesn't actually say that this virus has been found to be present, it is definitely set up is such a way as to give that impression), with the recommendation to: ..click OK to download and install the "officially approved security software". ... "approved" by whom, I wonder? ... and then to make it look even more official, ends with the ultimate (insulting) advice; "Always keep your patch levels up to date."
I also found a 'new' iVideoCodac folder in C:\Program Files which cannot be either manually deleted or removed using its own in-built uninstaller ... I wonder if my nephew will still think those videos were worth it after he's washed my car every Saturday for the next year? ... or if he really does go blind!
Anyway ... after deleting all Cookies, Temporary Internet Files, and Offline Content, clearing the Internet History, deleting the contents of the Windows\Prefetch folder, deleting all Temporary System files and emptying the Recycle Bin, I ran a Trend Micro Housecall 6.5 online scan, rebooted into Safe Mode and ran a Spybot-S&D scan and an Ewido 4 scan, rebooted into normal Windows mode and ran a HighjackThis scan, with the following results:
Trend Micro Housecall 6.5 online scan: Clear.
Spybot-S&D scan 1: Zlob Downloader detected.
Spybot-S&D scan 2: Clear.
Ewido 4 scan: Clear.
To finish, here is my HJT log:
