Hi,
I need some help, please. I tried to install the new IE 7 a few days ago and my computer crashed/went to the blue screen when I was doing this. Ever since this I have had problems with it crashing. I couldn't run an online virus scan to post here because the computer is just shutting down before it has a chance to finish. But here is the hijackthis log.

You got some infections there...
How often does this crashing happen or does it happen only when scanning the computer ? At least one of the infections has rootkit features so that propably explains the crashes...
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these logfiles along with a new HijackThis log.
Please run a GMER Rootkit scan:

Unzip it and start the GMER.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
Once done, click the Copy button.

Then, please do the following...
To generate a HijackThis Startup list:
1. Open HijackThis by double-clicking the desktop shortcut or HijackThis.exe
2. Click on "Open the Misc Tools Section"
3. Make sure that both boxes to the right of "Generate StartupList Log" are checked:
* List also minor sections (Full)
* List empty sections (Complete)
4. Click "Generate StartupListLog"
5. Click "Yes" at the prompt.
6. A Notepad window will open with the contents of the HijackThis Startup list displayed
7. Copy & Paste that log to here
Download F-Secure Blacklight (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try_blacklight.html) and save it to your desktop.
Doubleclick blbeta.exe, accept the agreement, click Scan, then click Next
You'll see a list what have been found. A log will appear to your desktop, it is named fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (xxxxxxx will be random numbers).
DON'T choose Rename if something was found!
Post the contents of fsbl.xxxx.log to here (blacklight log from your desktop)

1. Please download The Avenger (http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip) by Swandog46 to your Desktop. Click on Avenger.zip to open the file Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
Click Done
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Run GMER again:
Start the GMER.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply.
Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
6. Run ComboFix again.
- Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

You have ViewPoint & MyWay software installed. The programs have a suspicious reputation and I recommend that you remove these.
Open AVG Anti-Spyware:
On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/).
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.
Download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.
Do NOT run yet.
Create a new folder named HijackThis to your desktop. Move Hijackthis.exe into that folder.
Disable Windows Defender's realtime protection.
Open Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Exit the program.
Then, make your hidden files visible:
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.
Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
Click on the Settings tab.
Under How to act?
Click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
Under How to scan?
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Possibly unwanted software:
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Reports:
Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
Under What to scan?
Select Scan every file.
Click on the Scan tab.
Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
Let the program scan the machine.
When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you did hit the "Apply all Actions" button.
Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)

Click the Save Report as button.
Save the report to your Desktop.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

I did all the things in the last post and all went well I think. I couldn't find TheMatrixHasYou or piglett.exe with the search though. And there is a new file on my desktop called desktop. It is a notepad file. It might have come up when I was removing Viewpoint, but I don't know.

How is the computer running ?
The desktop.ini came visible because we made the hidden files visible.
Please make sure that you aren't using two active firewalls at the same time (ZoneAlarm, Bell Security Manager Firewall). It may cause problems.
Now you can clean AVG's Quarantine:
Open AVG Anti-Spyware
Click Infections
Click Quarantine tab
Click Select all
Click Remove finally
Close the program
You can remove the tools that we used.
Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Check "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
