I know that there have been a lot of problems with this, and I'm sorry to be starting yet another thread about it! I've followed the directions of many of the archives and tried to use many of the programs to get rid of it, but it seems that Spybot keeps finding it and it won't go away!
I've used Spybot, AVG, etc.

Apparently my hijackthis is too long, so I need to post it in my next post! Sorry!

Thanks for any help!

Angie

Hi Angie, welcome to the forum. Let me first say this:
FALSE POSITIVE
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=8668
Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888

Now let's talk about your Java program, it is severely out of date and it will get you infected:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< badly out of date

Unless you use DesktopMessenger it would be helpful to get those lines out of your log, see this:
For your information, all of the 018 items in the log are the result of the Logitech Desktop Messenger which gets installed along with another Logitech program because the EULA agreement is not read. Unless you know what it is and use it, it is a resource waster and can be removed in Add Remove programs, but make sure you uninstall only what I highlite in red, this is optional:
C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\ <<< uninstall only the program in red.

Please see this information: http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/d/dap.exe.htm
I suggest uninstall that junk.

Since you have AVG Anti-Spyware on board, open this link:
http://www.virusvault.co.uk/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/33/
Thanks to John McKenna for the tutorial, follow the directions exactly and post the Report-Scan.txt using Post Reply to stay in this topic. Once I see that report, we will have a little cleaning to do. If you will take care of the other issues, we will get your cleaned up.

Thanks

Thank you so much!

I uninstalled the DesktopMessager, DAP and my old Java program.

I ran AGV as you said to and here is the log:

Thanks Angie for returning your information. I see the scanner only located a few cookies, let's clean a little and see how the computer is running after that.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
Tutorial for using
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=1925

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
(if you did not set that advanced option, check and remove it)

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} - http://download.games.yahoo.com/game...ploader_v6.cab

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks

Just a word to the wise, I see itunes, QuickTime, RealPlayer, and no doubt Windows Media Player is about somewhere. That is a lot of resources being started everytime you boot. Do you really use all of those media players? Here is some information that may help:
http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ You may want to uninstall them if you don't use them also.

So I followed all of the directions, ran the cleaner, uninstalled a bunch of unneeded media players and things seem to be going alright!

I do have a question...I have a lot of anti-virus programs, but I'm not sure I need all of them. Specifically do I still need Symantec?

Thank you so much for everything!

Hi Angie, You posted a log in Selective Startup mode, I need to see everything running. Return to MSConfig and enable all, then create the HJT log for me, then you can return to Selective Startup without a reboot, post that log.

I only see the Symantec program? What other anti-virus programs are your running? I am not a bit fan of Symantec because I consider it a resource hog for what it does, but a lot of folks swear by it. Here is a good rule to go by.
1 Anti-virus progam running at a time.
1 Firewall running at a time
1 Anti-Spyware program running at a time.

The real time protection AVG Anti-Spyware is giving during the trial will conflict with Windows Defender, and I suggest you turn it off completely (services also) and update and use the scanner when you want a good scan.

I would keep Spybot and perhaps Ad-aware on board, but neither run unless you call for a scan, so they will not conflict with other programs.

Give me that log and I'll post some good information to help you stay safe from experts in the business and get you on your way. If you have additional questions I may be able to help with, post them.

Thanks...Phil

Still on Selective Startup:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

What is this?
KybtecWcCaller.exe

I uninstalled the DesktopMessager, DAP and my old Java program.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DownloadAccelerator] "C:\Program Files\DAP\DAP.EXE" /STARTUP <<< DAP{ still running at startup. Delete that folder if it is gone from Add Remove programs.
C:\Program Files\DAP\ <<< that one

Could I have a look at your Uninstall manager:
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Post new HJT log, hopefully in normal mode in MSConfig and please let me know about any problem still occuring.

Thanks
