View Full Version : Command Service
My internet has been disconnecting quite often for about 20 seconds at a time for a few weeks now. It has come to my attention that this may be caused by a problem I have encountered in spybot S&D.
Command Service 2 entries
Adaware detects nothing, AVG found some other problems and removed them.
I believe this command service is creating ads or other harmful programs and may be causing me to disconnect. I cannot remove it from my system.
I run a tea timer and run the minimum I can in my startup.
Here is my hijackthis:

I'd like to note that I read the past help on removing this problem and because of this I downloaded AVG, just not sure what other parts of the help for them also apply to me because they had additional problems.

Did all that was recommended.
Viewpoint is still in the log, did you not uninstall it? If you left it on purpose, let me know so I can ignore the junk.
It is very unusual for AVG Anti-Spyware not to pick up something? Is this the results of the second run?
The command service items are leftover registry entries caused by a poor adware removal by Ad-aware. I understand they have updated to fix this. Do an update of Ad-aware and run it removing what it locates. Then update and run Spybot and delete what it finds. Let me know if that issue is fixed.
Instructions start here:
1) Turn off TeaTimer, it will block changes we must make:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm
C:\Program Files\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe <<< turn off
Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.
2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.24-7searching-and-more.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.24-7searching-and-more.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.24-7searching-and-more.com/sp2.php
(Adobe: file missing) if you use it, download it again when we finish.
O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - E:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [services32] E:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-62-602-0000156.exe
(if you did not set these two resrictions, check and remove them)
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://E:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
E:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-62-602-0000156.exe <<< delete the file
(I have no Windows folder in my C:\Program Files\Common File\Windows <<< open that folder and see what is in it, if it is empty after you deleted the above files, then delete that folder. If it has other stuff, then use these scanners to find out what the stuff is)
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post any information I requested along with a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running.
Thanks
Viewpoint is still in the log, did you not uninstall it? If you left it on purpose, let me know so I can ignore the junk.
Sorry, forgot to mention that. Viewpoint did not appear in my add/remove so I simply deleted the folder rather than uninstalling, I guess I didn't get all of it.
It is very unusual for AVG Anti-Spyware not to pick up something? Is this the results of the second run? No, it was a first run. I got something like 500 malware detected, but they don't show up in the scan tab, they just get counted in the status tab. I don't know why they don't get shown for removal.
The command service items are leftover registry entries caused by a poor adware removal by Ad-aware. I understand they have updated to fix this. Do an update of Ad-aware and run it removing what it locates. Then update and run Spybot and delete what it finds. Let me know if that issue is fixed.
I hadn't updated my adaware because the update had been failing the last 1-2 weeks, it worked now, though, so that should be fixed.
I'll post again after adaware finishes and I follow your instructions.
5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
E:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-62-602-0000156.exe <<< delete the file
(I have no Windows folder in my C:\Program Files\Common File\Windows <<< open that folder and see what is in it, if it is empty after you deleted the above files, then delete that folder. If it has other stuff, then use these scanners to find out what the stuff is)
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
I did not do step 5 because I have no windows folder inside common files.
I went to E:\program files\WINDOWS but the files were not there so I don't know where to go.

I have not noticed any additional problems with my computer's performance, I won't be able to tell if the disconnects are still occuring until a little later (either it will hapen or it won't), that may be a problem with my wireless or the cable signal anyway.
Thank you for the help thus far.

Thanks for the feedback, the HJT log looks good so HJT must have killed that file you could not locate. If you want Viewpoint off your computer, and I suggest you do, then here it is:
Sorry, forgot to mention that. Viewpoint did not appear in my add/remove so I simply deleted the folder rather than uninstalling, I guess I didn't get all of it.
E:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
You have stuff on E:\ and stuff on C:\ please look one more time in Add Remove porgrams, it may use any of these names:
Viewpoint\
Viewpoint Manager\
ViewMgr.exe
If it is not there and you are sure, then do this:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#HTProcessManager
How to use the Process Manager
Follow those instructions to make sure you have Killed the process for Viewpoint. Now navigate to here:
E:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ <<< delete that folder in red, please note this is the E:\ drive.
I read what you said about disconnects at the bottom, and I wish to say I doubt malware is causing this issue and if it continues I would get with the ISP until they fix it.
You appear to be clean of malware so please do this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Im Glad we could help
Since the problems are solved Im going to close the topic now, this keeps others with similar problems from posting there logs/question here, they should start a new topic.
If you should need to post another log for the same PC let one of us know via a PM (personal message).
