View Full Version : Please help remove Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888
Hi, Spybot finds and removes Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888, but it shows up again on a new scan. Additionally, I'm getting a error message on startup that says "Error Loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\wyyimojdll the specified module could not be found"
I have run Spybot, Ad-aware, AVG, Smitfraudfix, and Vundofix.
Could you please help me get rid of the Smitfraud and error message?
Just to clarify, the AVG is antivirus only, I do not have the AVG antispyware.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
3) How to use the Delete on Reboot tool http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\antiwpa.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
(may be gone,just do not miss it)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wyyimoj.dll <<< delete this file
6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log. Let me know if that takes care of your malware problem.

While I was waiting for someone to reply, I ran Spybot again and the Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888 is no longer being detected. I also uninstalled the Virtuagirl program since it was shortly after installing that program that I became infected with winantispyware, which was the begining of my quest to clear out my system.
The reason I have antiwpa is because this is a second hand computer that came loaded with Windows XP, but I did not get the product code or recovery disc. When I replaced the hard drive with a larger one, I didn't know how to move XP from my old hard drive onto the new one. Since XP was bought and paid for with the computer but I don't have the origional disc, I'm using antiwpa.
I followed your instructions with the exception of removing antiwpa, and I installed the updated Java program. The error code on startup is gone. Hopefully I'm finally free of Spyware and residual files?
Here's another question, I see in several other posts, instructions are given to rename Hijackthis to something else before running. Why is that? Did I need to do that before running it? (this log and the other log were run without renaming HJT)

Your HJT log looks clean, if you are having no issues, then you are good to go.
Virtuagirl program <<< I saw it there and read up on it and it is not considered "malware" but junk often comes with that free stuff if you don't carefully read the EULA.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\antiwpa.dll <<< I knew what is was for, that is why I gave you the option. You are going to find Microsoft will be making it harder and harder to do that.
rename Hijackthis <<< Hackers know the tools we use and have been hiding Vundo, renaming HJT will show the infection. Some helpers just run the fix if symptoms are present. We are usually a few steps behind them. Since we volunteer our services, they are getting paid better.
The trojan is a prolific popup maker usually directing to the rouge spyware program, Winfixer. If I don't have the symptoms and if I can see 020 BHO's and other 020's I figure Vundo is not present.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
