Smitfraud.C-Toolbar888 HELP!!!

Wow...this infection is a pain!!!

I have attempted to fix my smitfraud.c problem using this post, however it hasn't worked. I think the problem is alot of the reg values and HJT logs don't have the same values on my comuter.

I get these results from Spybot:

I have done Vundo Fix and got several results from that scan. Clicked remove Vundo, restarted, and it's still giving me an icon in the taskbar and will open IE randomly to open new pages.

I have been reading several of the post here and trying to fix it on my own, but just can't seem to isolate it and kill the SOB.

Welcome to the forum, if you still need help let's do this.

1) First understand that Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888 is a false positive and you can forget it.

That is part of Smitfraud and if I read correctly the fix was just updated to fix it and you are one version behind. Please use this link and information:
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php
Remove the version you have and Download version v2.122, then run the "Search" funchtion and post that text report. If it locates that item, you can move on to "Clean", but if it does not, stop and let me look. Desktop issues can occur if you run "Clean" and the infection is not present. We would remove it manually at that point.

Since I have not seen the results of a Vundofix scan, I can not tell if it is still on the computer or not.
Follow these instructions: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4394 once Vundofix shows that all files it located "Have Been Deleted" post the scan results for me to view.

After a reboot that's Smitfraudfix results, Vundofix scan result and a new HJT log. Please let me know of any malware issues at that point.

Sorry, forgot to tell you what is left.

I am still having problems with the icon in the taskbar and the warning about my system having problems. Then when surfing the internet I get a page for Win Antivirus product that opens up unrequested.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) How to use the Delete on Reboot tool http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winexz32.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

4) AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 will block changes we must make, turn it off like this:
Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvbav.dll <<< delete that folder

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running now.

As soon as you post that log, then use these instructions to run the program you have onboard, make sure you update first, the delete or at least quarantine what is found. Make sure you save the Report-Scan.txt and post it for me to view as soon as you have it.

I do have a question for you though.

As soon as you post that log, then use these instructions to run the program you have onboard, make sure you update first, the delete or at least quarantine what is found. Make sure you save the Report-Scan.txt and post it for me to view as soon as you have it.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
