Hello everyone!

After many hours of trying to fix my problem, I found my way to your forums. :) Here's what's going on with my computer...

I was without an antivirus subscripton for about a week, and suddenly this program/adware/virus got in my computer. I got my Norton subscription back and ran the antivirus, with got rid of some stuff. I also ran Spybot S&D and AdAware, both getting rid of some other things... Now, though, there's this little icon in my taskbar that reads Security Warning. When clicked it just takes me to places where I can buy WinAntivirusPro 2006 and WinAntiSpyware. And whenever I open a browser, a popup shows up taking me to other..buy our product sites! :P I've ran Spybot and Norton many, many times and none seem to detect anything wrong.

This may not be another spyware or virus.. but on the taskbar Im also getting the Downloading Updates icon a lot. Norton tells me it blocked the "Downloader". Is Norton possibly blocking Windows Update, or is this just another program that pretends to be winupdate to fool me and install more stuff on my machine? :X

So.. I ran Norton, full system scan (nothing). Then I ran S&D, with the newest updates installed (got some cookies outta the way). Then I ran Trend Micro Housecall 6.5. At first it found 1 spyware, fixed it, then it ran again and said everything was clean.. I thought it would toss me a log file somewhere, but it didn't..and just said I should get PC Cillin and such.. Ill run another of the online antivirus scanner if you still need a log file..

Then I went to safe mode, ran S&D, and the same items appeared. Fixed them, then rebooted..and the darn pop up things are still there.. :X So here's my HijackThis log file..

Hi animatorjay and welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

You got some infections there...

Create a new folder named HijackThis to your desktop and move HijackThis.exe into that folder.
Please rename HijackThis.exe to Scanner.exe

The post a fresh HijackThis (scanner.exe) log to here

Hi again :)

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe)
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hi again :)

Before we'll continue I would like you to do something for me...
I need you too upload few malware files for further inspection.

Make your hidden files visible:
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
Please go here (http://www.uploadmalware.com/) to upload a suspicious file for analysis.
Enter your username from this forum
Copy and paste the link to this thread
Click "Browse" on the 1. field.
Browse to the following file and click the file with your mouse, press "Open"
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhh.dll

In the comments, please mention that I asked you to upload this file
Click on Send File
Please let me know when you have done this and then we'll get you cleaned :)

Thanks for the upload :)

We'll run VundoFix again:
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhhkj.*
Click Add Files and Click Close Window
Click the Remove Vundo button.

Hi again :)

I forgot this from my last post, sorry...

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm (http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm)

NOTE: Do not run any other options from SmitfraudFix until I tell you to do so!

Then we'll get you cleaned :bigthumb:

Hi again, we'll continue :)

The unregistered version of FlashGet serves up Ads in Internet Explorer that are downloaded from Cydoor servers. I would suggest removing it if it is this version. The registered version supposedly does not... so it should be ok. I usually recommend Leechget (http://www.leechget.net/en/). Please uninstall FlashGet in the Control Panel /Add Remove programs. These are the items to fix in HijackThis.
O2 - BHO: IeCatch2 Class - {A5366673-E8CA-11D3-9CD9-0090271D075B} - C:\PROGRA~1\FlashGet\jccatch.dll

Hi again, looks quite good :)

If the AVG report is too big to be attached to this site, you can upload it to eg RapidShare (http://rapidshare.com/). Just remember to post a link to your file to me :bigthumb:

Hi again, it is looking clean now :)

======================

Then a few optional recommendations:

Viewpoint components are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting "Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager" ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself.

This is part of Tioga Software’s remote support and management tools (Tioga.com, Support.com, and SupportSoft.com are one and the same company) and is installed by the setup CD of the @Home ISP (@Home and MediaOne are now part of Comcast, with the ComcastSupport software being the main culprit for introducing T G C M D on a PC). The Tioga/SupportSoft.com software is also included in the Sony Support software that comes with some Sony Vaio’s and HP Pavillion’s. The original intention of T G C M D is to have your @Home service or systems software automatically updated when you are online, to provide a remote support technician with setup information about your PC, and, in some cases, to allow the remote support technician to connect to your PC and see what you are doing – in short, technical support is indeed the original intention; unfortunately, its features are also very useful to advertisers. This is considered a valid program but spyware by some. It is not just Comcast that installs this but also BellSouth in my case.

its features are also very useful to advertisers and so, depending on who supplied it, T G C M D will also collect information from your PC, which web pages you have visited, what you have downloaded, and permission based information about your system, its software, its settings, etc...,

Removal:
Use Add/Remove Programs and remove the application. The application may have different names in Add/Remove depending upon the company

Recommendation :
If you are a Comcast customer, de-install "Comcast Support" through the Add/Remove icon in your Control Panel. Next, look up BJCFD in these Task List pages. If you have a Sony Vaio, de-install the "Vaio Support Agent" through the Add/Remove icon in your Control Panel. In all cases, if the de-installation of Comcast Support or Vaio Support Agent does not remove T G C M D after a reboot, then Immediately disable T G C M D using The Ultimate Troubleshooter ! (http://www.answersthatwork.com/TUT_pages/TUT_information.htm)

For more information, check AnswersThatWork Tasklist (http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_t.htm)

========================

You can fix the following leftover with HijackThis:

Delete the old Java,
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
The page will refresh.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Stand Up and Be Counted ! (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/index.php)
The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Stay clean and be safe ;)
