View Full Version : Smitfraud-C & Smitfraud-C Toolbar888
Well, like so many others here, I've tried for a couple days to rid myself of these viruses, scouring the web and in particular these forums trying things, but I have not been able to come up with the correct combination of steps to eradicate the viruses. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I renamed HijackThis.exe to Scanner.exe and collected the following log:

Hi dbrust and welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)
Something there needs cleaning....
Create a new folder named HijackThis to your desktop and move Scanner.exe into that folder.
Disable Windows Defender's realtime protection.
Open Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Exit the program.
Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
Hi Mr_JAk3,

Everything is working great! I really thought I was going to have to reinstall--I really appreciate all of the help! I put some of the things you suggested in place to help prevent this from happening again.
Thanks again for everything you did!
