Hi I get this red cicrle in my system tray with a yellow exclamation mark after every 2 reboots. I have tried ad-aware, spybot, av-anti spyware, smitfraudfx etc and have generally given up...would really appreciate some help. Here is my HijackThis log

Welcome to the forum,
I have tried ad-aware, spybot, av-anti spyware, smitfraudfx etc and have generally given up...Whatever you have tired, it appears you are not using the proper instructions:

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) Follow the directions in this link: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015 When you finish the instructions, post the three logs in this same topic using the "Post Reply" button.
Please use these instructions when you run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or at least quarantine what is located.
http://www.virusvault.co.uk/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/33/

Spybot-S&D: Be sure to follow the directions to save the scan report but do not post it here unless requested by a helper.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks for the valuable feedback and quick response.

I seemed to have solved the problem. I booted safe mode, ran ATF Cleaner,
AVG Anti-spyware and deleted 2 .exe files in windows\system32 (ishost.exe and ismini.exe)

I have rebooted about 5 times now and no sign of the malware.

Thanks again for the informative links which I have made a note of.

One last question.

I found a 'drvkul.dll' in my msconfig-Startup (rundll32.exe c:\windows\system32\drvkul.dll,startup)

I tried googling drvkul.dll but can find no reference to it anywhere. Has anyone ever come across this .dll? Any idea if its legitimate or a bogus .dll that got installed by spyware?

Thanks.

OK, well I posted instructions for you to follow and you seem to choose not to follow them. Unless you do and post the logs I asked for, I can't comment a whole lot on anything you have done. I will take the time to say:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDrive] "rundll32.exe" C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvkul.dll,startup
This is probably a trojan that may or may not have been removed by Smitfraudfix. I remove it manually when the fix does not, you can scan it to find out what it is here:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvkul.dll <<< scan that file

I also suggest this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

tashi will close:) your topic in a few days.
