Hello

I discovered this morning that my system has become infected with some type of malware.

1. AVG Anti-virus is not running at startup
2. My Windows firewall is automatically disabled
3. Windows Messenger (MSN Messenger) is running at startup and shouldn't be

I downloaded HijackThis in order to create a log for posting however whenever I open the folder containing HijackThis, the screen is refreshing and denying me access to the program.

I ran both Spybot and Ad-Aware which have found numerous problems and stated that they've fixed them but problems are persisting. One of those identified in Spybot was 'FakeMSN8beta'.

After completing the above I found a post in your forums with some instructions and I have attempted to follow those.

I tried to run an Online Virus Scan however none of the sites suggested would load in my browser (the malware's causing this I'm sure)
I booted into Safe Mode and ran Spybot. It found 52 problems and fixed them all (including FakeMSN8beta).
I ran Spybot again and it said no problems found.
While still in Safe mode, I ran HijackThis and saved the log
I rebooted to normal startup and again, messenger started up in the tray and AVG is not running

Here is my HJT log:

If the HJT log must be created while in normal startup mode (as I suspect it does), then I don't know how I'm going to do this. Whenever I open HJT the malware is automatically closing it on me.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Paul

My issue was solved primarily through the use of the MSNVirRem tool.

Paul
