Hello,
Today I found new icon at my taskbar - small read circle. There was a message that there is a "spyware in the system " or something like this. I did not start scan, which was offered in this window - just close it and start searching how to clean up my system. I try AVG and Spybot before I read article in this forum and then I use SmitfraudFix - and I (looks like) clean system from this "red circle", but there is "Smitfraud-C.Tollbar888" and I can't clean it.I try safe mode, I was turning off windows restore. Nothing help. I clean it from Spybot, start it again and Spybot found it.
Hope you will help me to clean the system

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. Just so you will know Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888 is a false positive in Spybot that will be fixed soon, see this:

I still see some junk that needs to go, let's remove it like this: I believe you should get rid of this item:

My scanner says this file is a problem: iefdmcks.dll You can scan it here: http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Windows XP handles downloads well and there is really no need for a download manager, but if you must have one, I will suggest one that I am sure is safe before we are done, let me know.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) How to use the Delete on Reboot tool

Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winuns32.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvpow.dll <<< delete that file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winuns32.dll <<< delete that file (should be gone)

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running now.

There is no winuns32.dll in my computer at all. I check it few times and try to search for this file at C:\. Nothing.
Should I just go to the step 4?

Go ahead and finish all instructions, do what you can do and post a new HJT log. Tell me about any problems at that point and we will go from there once I see that HJT log.

i did not found it. may be it was deleted by AVG or another software - I run it after I post HJT log, because I can't stop working with this computer.
Anyway, I make all as you wrote and there is new log file. Red dot is gone from toolbar and all is looking fine :D:

Hi Mike, either another tool or the "Delete on Reboot tool" killed the file, we just need to remove it from the log, it can do no harm now.

Let's do this now:
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O8 - Extra context menu item: Download all with Free Download Manager - file://C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\dlall.htm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winuns32 - winuns32.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SYSTEM RESTORE
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
