Hi, I've had this pesky winantispyware malware on my computer and can't get rid of it! The latest version of Spybot picked it up and fixed the problem, but it has come back, with even more pop-ups! It's picked up on Spysweeper free trial as Vundo. I've tried the vundofix tool with no luck. Here's the latest Hijackthis! report. Please Help!

Welcome to the forum, looks like a hidden Vundo infection. I need a look at it first, return to here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\My Documents\Downloads\HijackThis.exe <<< right click and rename the .exe to say jzone.exe. The next log should show the infection. I want to say also that HJT needs it own folder to store logs and backups for safety. If that Downloads folder is used for other files, I suggest you create a new folder for HJT like this:
C:\HJT\jzone.exe if you need more instruction use these:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html

Your Java program is very outdated, and likely the reason you are infected, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< out of date. Uninstall all old versions and make sure you have the newest, which is now 10. Do this right away, before we run Vundofix.

Do you own Spysweeper? It is a good program but uses a load of resources and I would not run it and Windows Defender at the same time. Just as one firewall and one antivirus program, stick with one good "active" spyware program.

Post that HJT log with the updated Java version, and I will respond with directions as soon as possible after that.

Thanks

jzone

OK and thanks for returning your information. The Vundo did not show up like I thought I would. Let's try this first, it did show a BHO that does not identify, that may be they problem. I also see some Norton stuff in BHO and toolbars that are missing files and not working right if at all. If you use those, download them again later when we are finished. I still need an answer to my question about SpySweeper.

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs. Look for Winfixer and any other program you know does not belong there and uninstall them. If you are not sure let me know and I will look.

3) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

4) Disable SpySweeper, it will block changes we must make.
Open the program
On the left, click: Options, then > Program Options
Uncheck: Load at windows startup
Again on the left click: Shields and uncheck all items there.
Uncheck: Home Page Shield
Uncheck: Automatically restore default without notification

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {013A653B-49A6-4f76-8B68-E4875EA6BA54} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmpEC.tmp.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I do have Spysweeper (the free trial version) running. :)

So I went through the steps that you mentioned and so far no pop-ups! The computer seems to be running ok, not as slow as before.

There is one thing I noticed in the add/remove programs that I'm not sure of. It's a program called PS2. I can't find any information about it. Is this a legit program?

Also, upon restarting my computer the application "jucheck.exe" attempted to access the internet. Is this just the Sun Java update that I made or might it be associated with a virus?

Thank you for your help! Here is the latest Hijack this log:

Hi, just an update. I've gotten some errorsafe popups reappearing!

Thanks for the feedback, my suggestion would be to uninstall Spysweeper if the trial is over. It uses a bunch of resources and affords no realtime protection. How about running a scan with it since you have it and post it for me to view. Perhaps it will show us something?

It's a program called PS2. I can't find any information about it. Is this a legit
Not much to search with, do you have PlayStation2? If not, locate the program and open it to see what it is.
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-16,GGLG:en&q=PS2

"jucheck.exe" attempted to access the internet.
Use your Google to answer those questions: http://www.google.com/

Hi, just an update. I've gotten some errorsafe popups reappearing!
I am posting search results for this junk. I have not looked at the HJT log to see if I can spot a reason in the log.

If we still have this problem once we kill Vundo, we will address it then...

Looks like some version of Vundo has finally showed up:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A7DDB07D-FCF8-46EE-8174-27710972BFE4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lfep01h.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: lfep01h - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\lfep01h.dll
I have never seen this file before but that is not unusual, the hackers can call them what they want. Vundofix may not know it either, you may have to run the fix several times. Make sure this file: lfep01h.dll and any others file/files the fix finds all say "Have been deleted!"
I would also appreciate it if you would upload that file to Atribune, simple uploading instructions will be posted.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information, that looks like it did the job, use HJT to remove this line, and you may have to turn off Windows Defender to do it.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A7DDB07D-FCF8-46EE-8174-27710972BFE4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lfep01h.dll (file missing)

I see the new version of Java in the log, and you may have updated after you ran the Vundofix, but there is an old version showing in that scan:
VundoFix V6.2.13
Checking Java version...
Java version is 1.4.2.3
Scan started at 1:50:35 PM 01/12/2006
Please be sure it has been deleted, if it is on the computer, hackers can use it to infect you.

Hi, I've been away for the weekend so I wasn't able to respond to you sooner. My computer is working much better now. None of the Winantispyware popups have appeared since I used Vundofix, though popups have been appearing when I use the search function on certain sites (google, youtube mostly). I believe that these popups may be associated with another virus. Recently my Norton Antivirus picked up a Trojan virus. It was unable to repair the files and placed them in quarantine. This may be the source of the new popups.

However, Winantispyware seems to be gone from my computer. Thank you very much for your help! I can't tell you how relieved I am to have Vundo off my computer! All the best, J

Thanks for the feedback, sounds good:bigthumb: I suggest you save your resources and uninstall Spysweeper, once the trial is over there are no benefits I can discern. It may well conflict with Windows Defender. I also suggest you consider Internet Explorer for the additional protection it now gives you: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx
