View Full Version : Browser Redirecting problem

Hi. I'm having trouble with some kind of malware which redirects my browser to randomly generated pages. Not everything is affected, however, for example if I click on a bookmark for wikipedia, I can access other sites through links, which is how I'm accessing this site.

Spybot doesn't give me anything, and AVG and ewido microscan both came up with trojans, however cleaning them/fixing them didn't solve the problem.

I've browsed the forum a bit, and it seems the thing to do is run "Fixwareout", post the report and then run "hijackthis" and post that report, so here they are:

Sorry to add another post, I know we're not supposed to bump but I couldn't work out how to edit my previous post.

I looked around, and found this guy (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=9362) had the same problem. Mine is a little odd too, I've worked out that it only redirects (via this jupk.com site) when the address I try to access is a .co.uk address. .com, .org, etc all seem fine (hence I can get on here ok), but this is still pretty inconvenient as I am british and therefore access a lot of .co.uk site.

I tried doing a Panda scan and it came up with this:

Incident Status Location

Possible Virus. Not disinfected C:\fixwareout\FindT\swreg.exe

I did a Kaspersky scan too:

Hello tomhoward87,

Welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

Hello teacup, thanks for your help.

I actually managed to stop the redirecting over the weekend, since it was just a case of changing the DNS Server on the TCP/IP Properties of my connection. The Malware had simply changed it from "obtain automatically" to these addresses in the Hijack this log: 85.255.116.20 and 85.255.112.215. Once I removed that, my computer worked fine.

Anyway, I did as you said, and my computer still works fine, and here is the log:

Hello,

Great job! Good on you.:bigthumb: I could tell you had done your homework, and all that was left were the 017s.

If all is well for you, and your scans came up clean, then I believe you're good to go. :)

Some good reading from Winhelp2002

Take care!
