View Full Version : Lots of problems, HJT log included...

Ok, this afternoon my PC started acting really strangely. Firstly, I got alot of pop up windows in IE (which is strange because I use firefox), mainly they were to do with security programs. I closed them all, a little confused. Next thing I know, my current firefox window got redirected to the following URL...

http://89.188.16.13/trafc-2/rfe.php?cmp=vm_mg_r_2_fth_fail&nid=sh&uid=846066D0844111DBAED600167647FA98&guid=3c787136+757051BAE7384DDC9C9346198DF87008&lid=http%3E&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2Fig%3Fhl%3Den&affid=66973

It was a blank page....but that was in the address bar.

I was then in My Computer, browsing my C: Drive and Windows Explorer closed down (I lost my taskbar and icons on my desktop).

Restarted the computer...

When it starts up I have a small icon in my tray warning me about Security issues - i've never had this icon before...

Anyways, I come on here to see how to solve my problems!

I ran ad-aware, cleared up everything I could on there. Ran AVG Anti-Virus - again clearing everything. Ran an online test at panda (i'll put the log below). Ran Spybot and cleared everything. Restarted in safe mode and ran spybot again. Cleared. Ran sybot again and there was one that was still there - "Smitfraud -c". I ran it again and it still turned up again. Anyways, restarted my PC in normal mode and did a HJT log.

My pc has these problems maybe every 30 mins or so on average. Just a note, after messing around in safe mode and running spybot I no longer have the icon in the system tray but im still getting pop ups in IE and stuff...

Hope you can help :)

Hi Andy Booth and welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

You got infections there...

Rename HijackThis.exe to Scanner.exe

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis (scanner.exe) log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Hi again :)

Before we'll continue I would like you to do something for me...
I need you too upload few malware files for further inspection.

Make your hidden files visible:
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
Please go here (http://www.uploadmalware.com/) to upload a suspicious file for analysis.
Enter your username from this forum
Copy and paste the link to this thread
Click "Browse" on the 1. field.
Browse to the following file and click the file with your mouse, press "Open"
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxywwv.dll

In the comments, please mention that I asked you to upload this file
Click on Send File
Please let me know when you have done this and then we'll get you cleaned :bigthumb:

Hi and thank you for the upload, we'll continue :)

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxywwv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vwwyxbc.*
Click Add Files and Click Close Window
Click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe) (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm (http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm)

NOTE: Do not run any other options from SmitfraudFix until I tell you to do so!

Ok looks quite good :)
How is the computer running ?

1. Download this file - combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe)
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Havn't been on it much since i've done the fixes but havn't noticed any problems yet! Its generally running alot better, I was finding it awful slow at doing simple things like navigating my C: drive, which doesn't seem to be the case anymore :)

Here is the requested log...hope it looks ok :)

Hi again, it is looking quite good now :)

Please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Select "All Files".

Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tuvsssp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\aslpslqm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvdit.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjkhef.dll
Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Then if the computer is running fine:

You don't seem to a firewall (http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=56#56) running, you must install one firewall.
NOTE: If you're using Windows XP firewall, I recommend that you install a better firewall. Windows firewall doesn't really provide enough protection.
Disable Windows firewall after installing a new firewall.

These are good (free) firewalls: Sunbelt-Kerio (http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm)
ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/)
Sygate (http://http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3356)
Outpost (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1056)

Now you can clean AVG's Quarantine:
Open AVG Anti-Spyware
Click Infections
Click Quarantine tab
Click Select all
Click Remove finally
Close the program
You can remove the tools we used.
You can remove the following backup folders:
C:\!Killbox
C:\Qoobox
C:\VundoFix Backups

Then you should update your Java to the latest version (5.0 update 10) Start
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Delete the old Java, J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Install it

Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Check "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

=============

Now that you seem to be clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Read this article by TonyKlein (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279)
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Stand Up and Be Counted ! (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/index.php)
The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Stay clean and be safe ;)

Many thanks for all the help...

Just one question about the firewall though...do I really need one when im behind a router? I always thought the router did it for me....

Again, thanks alot, saved me alot of time and effort

Hi and you're welcome :)

Your router migh include a firewall. Those router firewalls doen't have inbound protection. That means that you can't manage which programs are connecting to the internet from your computer.

I use a router which has a firewall built in. I still use a software firewall too.
I would recommend that you install a software firewall but it is your choice.
