Smitfraud-c.toolbar888; VSAdd-in for internet explorer;

The S&D has found smitfraud-c.toolbar888. I have used the smitfraud removal tool but it has not found anything.

I have also found in my control panel: add/remove VSAdd-in for internet explorer that cannot be removed.

Welcome to the forum, to start, it appears you missed this information:

Because there is no antivirus scan posted with the HJT log. Please read those instructions and make sure you have followed them. Choose an online antivirus scan and run it. Tell me when you have the results and I will let you know when and if to post it.
I will number the instructions to help us stay organized, please do them in the numbered order.

1) You have a very outdated Java program that will get you infected if it has not already. See this information:

Follow those instructions, download the newest version and uninstall all old version in Add Remove programs.

I am not sure what you have there, but I want all new programs, so delete all of that stuff. Now follow the directions in these links to download HJT:

I prefer you put HJT here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. Once you have it placed, then point the mouse at the .exe and right click, then rename it to foforever.exe or whatever. That should show us vundo in the next HJT log if it is present.

3) So you know, this: Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888 item Spybpt S&D finds is a false positive, you can ignore it. Read about it here:

4) Follow these instructions to see if any of the Smitfraud infection is present:
Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

6) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

7) AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5: Deactivate the Resident Shield- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

8) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall VSAdd-in if there. Uninstall any other programs you know do not belong there. If you are unsure, let me know and I will look.

9) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

10) Use the instruction in the link to run AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5. Please be sure to delete or at least quarantine the bad stuff it finds.

11) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the report from Smitfraudfix, the scan results from AVG Anti-Spyware and a new HJT log.
