Hi everyone - sorry, I know you must be sick of this topic, but I'm at my wit's end. I've been informed that I have SpyAxe And SmitFraud infecting my system. I've done everything possible - run Hijackthis, Panda, Adaware, Ewido, Smitrem and SpyAxeFix, but all to no avail. Below are the logs:

Hi bachya
"I've been informed that I have SpyAxe And SmitFraud infecting my system."

Who or what said that ?
Describe the problems in as much detail as possible ?

When we next ask ask for logs post the entire thing, i cannot see what version of smitrem you used nor do we see the header in the hijackthis log, those are important.
Plus that hijackthis log looks as if was taken in safe mode, we would need one while not.

Thanks for your response - forgive me for not providing the proper information.

A little balloon window in the Windows XP taskbar told me that I had been infected, and that SpyAxe was the best option to remove it. Upon running Spybot, I found instances of SmitFraud that could not be removed since they were "still in memory (use)" - even allowing Spybot to run after a reboot did not fix the problem.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi

I have to assume you ran an older version of smitrem, delete the one you have and repeat these steps

Download smitRem.exe (http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1) and save the file to your desktop. (By noahdfear.)
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates: Ad-Aware SE Setup (http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/adawareSE_setup.htm)
Don't run it yet!
Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:[list=1]
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Spybot check for and fix any problems found.
Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido and do a full scan, delete anything found
Run your mcafee program and do a full system scan

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ioctrl.dll < delete that file

Restart back to a normal windows session

Post a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist

I have noticed that if I run Spybot again (in regular - not safe - mode), it says there is still an instance of SmitFraud that can't be removed because it is in memory (use). What should I do about this?

Hey Lonny,

Just checking in - my computer is definitely no longer slowed down, and I no longer that that popup notification that my computer has been infected, and that SpyAxe will fix it. However, when I run Spybot, I still find one instance of SmitFraud there...it once again says that it cannot be fixed, since the process is in memory (use). Even when I have Spybot run immediately after a reboot, the instance of SmitFraud is still there. Is this something I need to worry about?

Thanks.

Hi

Its actualy nothing to worry about but can be taken care of with winhelps del domains inf file.
Use winhelp2002's DelDomains.inf , found here
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm
Afterward's you will need to immunize again in SpyBot and re-protect again with SpywareBlaster. or re-install iespyadds if you use it.

Im Glad we could help
Since the problems are solved Im going to close the topic now, this keeps others with similar problems from posting there logs/question here, they should start a new topic.
If you should need to post another log for the same PC let me know.
