The Blue screen of death

For several days i have been trying to resolve this problem. I have run eleven different anti virus/scanning programs and naturally they all find some problems such as Downloader.Zlob, Adware mainsearch etc. I have managed to retake my homepage in IE. and have stopped the pop-ups. However I am still frequently getting the Blue screen which flashes on my laptop and closes down too fast to read the problems.

Today I discovered your forum despite having used Spybot for years. I have followed your procedures (they are very clear) and with one exception everything went well. I did not see any reference to wininet.dll in the Smitfraudfix. Here are the scans:-

Welcome to the forum, I see a little junk that should go but the major issues I see is two antivirus programs running at the same time, no telling the problems that can cause as they conflict, see this:
You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

It would really help to know what the message coming from Windows is (BSOD) this can happen for many reason and it is hard to troubleshoot without the exact wording.

Make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything located. Save that scan report, I must see it.

Restart the computer and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware scan and a new HJT log. Make sure to include any information I requested above.

I normally run the following protection: AVG, ZoneAlarm, Spybot, CClean and Reg Clean. The other Anti Virus, SpySweeper (30 day trial) and Avast have been used to try and clear up this mess. Only AVG is activated.
I followed your instructions but after running the AVG scan, (found 12 cookies, VirusBurst and Trojan Downloader.Zlob) it treated the files and said "no report available". I tried to open the "Infections" and it states that files are harmless now in Quarantine. Do you want me to re-scan and try for a report?

Thanks for returning the information, so we are clear on this, I am suggesting you run 1 antivirus program (I see only Avast) 1 Firewall (I see Zone Alarm, be sure the SP2 firewall is disabled), this is also suggested by Microsoft, and 1good active Spyware program.

I suggest you uninstall SpySweeper (uses load of resources and give no benefits I know of after the trial period) and will also suggest you uninstall AVG Anti-Spyware (careful not to confuse this with the AVG Anti-Virus program) once we have finished with it unless you purchase the program. The option would be to disable it in services, turn it totally off and you can use the scanner on call. The updates are free from Grisoft.
The other programs Spybot, etc. do not actively run and should be run fine with what you are running. This leaves you with no active spyware program once AVG Anti-Spyware is disabled (unless you purchase it). My suggestion would be that you consider Windows Defender as a free alternative:

AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.

Thanks for your prompt replies.
I have un-installed Spysweeper & Avast. Findfast.exe is deactivated in my Start-up program.

AVG seems to have found the same cookies as it deleted last night. I have only been to the forum since then with no other internet activity.

The BSOD was only closingdown when using IE &/or Firefox browsers. Is there a file for the BSOD somewhere or is it possible to stop or slow down the scroll. I have tried to "pause" but it usually happens so quickly that it has gone before I can react. The BSOD and a "Found New Hardware" balloon, which comes up when I boot, have only happened since I encountered the Trojan.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
