titchykrust

I contracted a virus bout a month ago, the 'Warning there may be harmful.....' and i asked for help and was getting it but after lil while i logged on to my comp and the icon had disappeared and a few moments later norton said it had found a trojon busky. Since then its keeps finding various trojons as well as the comp having existing infection such as smitfraud from the first time it got infected. I keep getting rid of things but everytime i think i've cleared it something else comes back or they're buried in my system.

Heres my hijack log. Hope you can help, Titchykrust.

hi titchykrust,

good thanks. continue on with the fix.

start at step 4 again, (the search: step 1 option)

the rest requires a boot into safe mode to work best. so i would copy/paste the rest of the directions into notepad and save them somewhere like your desktop so you can read along while in safe mode.

once in safe mode continue along with the fix

hi titchykrust,

my desktop and task bar completely disappeared

dont know why really. lets finish doing the smitfraudFix first. if you havent yet start with the search step again, then boot into safe mode for the rest of it.

I have aproblem. My computer won't go into safe mode. I shut down windows and started a fresh and got to the menu after tapping f8 and i selected safe mode, i then selected start up windows xp in safe mode and it went to the log in screen. I click on my user icon and logged in as it told me and it went to the black screen with safe mode written on it and a box appeared. before i had chance to read it it disappeared and i was left staring at a black screen for ages and it not actually doing anything. I tried again twice more and it did the same. the box would appear then disappear. i managed to read a bit more it said something bout do you wish to proceed yes or no and something bout using safe mode to correct errors.

Am i doing something wrong or missing something? its all very confusing

p.s dun worry bout the taskbar and desktop. My friend helped me out. He said it had just crashed and he told me how to re set it. :)

hi titchykrust,

no you are doing it right.
there is anotherway to try and get into safe mode:

the two ways:
first way (which you tried)

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

second way you might try:

To use the System Configuration Utility method
Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
The computer restarts in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
-------------------------------------
if you cant boot into safe mode to run the clean step of smitfraudfix, just run the step in normal mode.

then:
next go out and get AVG:
Download AVG Anti-Spyware and save that file to your
desktop:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This is a 30 day trial of the program
Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).
--------------------------------------------------
please post the log form the smitfraudfix and the AVG log, if there is alot of cookies from AVG you can edit them out.
