replacement for nero, 7-zip, and windows mediaplayer

i have nero essentials that came with my external dvd-burner but i could not get nero to convert divx to dvd because of the restrictions in it. i also have used 7-zip, but i can not get it to extract multiple rar files without it being errors. windows mediaplayer doesnt play everything and i dont want to use codec packs. divx burned to cd does not work well in my dvd-players, and it isnt space to all divx movies on cds either.

do you have some replacements to this programs to recommend? i mean freeware.

thanks:) i was searching on google right now, because i have heard some time ago that winamp includes the spyware wildtangent, i hope it doesnt include it anymore. it seemed that winamp doesnt play movies, is that right?

i will try cdburnerxp again, but the last time i tried it months ago, i couldnt convert divx to dvd with it as i can remember. i will try them, and i am going to look for a file archiver too, and look closer on the article from wikipedia.

You can use WinRAR for 30 days.
When WinRAR becomes expired, will be able to use it still, but you will get a popup like this when you run it: "WinRAR is not free. You can use trial for 30 days. etc..." and 4 buttons:"Continue", "Buy WinRAR", "How to buy it" and "Help", I think. I use WinRAR. Possibly the same thing with WinZip.

then everything is easier, i will download all this ones right now, but i must look for more information on winamp before downloading and using it.

Yes, I recommend that. I started using it because bitman recommended it to me. :P My WMP 11 couldn't decode a DVD.

there was no sound when burning music with cdburnerxp, so i installed nero essentials again and when burning with nero it was sound again. i have burned music with cdburnerxp before and it worked at that time, but this one was newer than the one i have used before so maybe that is the cause.

i will see what i do, have just burned one cd with music with nero, it worked great.

may /seem/ radical, but ..

You could give Puppy linux a try - if your hardware is compatible with the packaged drivers, it's all good (and the forums are quite extensive and knowledgeable if you wish further advice). gxine works for me, but then I'm not all that big on pulling content off the `Net ;) - a big plus in Puppy is the burning s/w is pretty much bulletproof (has to be for a liveCDvD). Best of luck with non-invasive winapps

thanks:) nero is annoying because of all that is included in it.

cdburnerxp worked after installing all of the .net frameworks, this is just to give feedback. i will buy nero i think, but i dont like everything that comes with it.

I like Nero a lot, mostly since it's the app I used for more than 10 years now. The version I've sitll got installed (6.5 or something) doesn't work perfectly on XP 64 though (after burning, the confirmation dialog cannot be clicked and I have to shut Nero down the hard way), so I found ImgBurn, a successor to the now outlawed DVD Decrypter. If you know what you want to do, it's perfectly tiny. Otherwise, I remember I had good impressions about CDBurnerXP, too, can only underline that recommendation :)

I second PepiMK - Imgburn is so simple and easy to use but at the same time sooo customisable. The guys at LightningUK do a great job :p:

i was actually about to download imgburn some days ago, but i have downloaded other things and almost forgot to download imgburn. but imgburn and cdburnerxp do different things i think, isnt imgburn mostly for images? i dont understand all of the settings imgburn has.
