How to clean an infected PC

Hi again :)

Ok, they look like leftovers...

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

At first you need to disable a few realtime protections. These may interfere with our cleaning process. We'll enable these when you're clean...

Disable AVG Anti-Spyware guard.
  • Open AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Click Shield
  • Click under "resident shield is"
  • Change it to inactive
  • Close the program

Disable Spybot S&D Teatimer.
  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
  • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer

Restart your computer to the safe mode:
  • Restart your computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
  • When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list.

  • Restart your computer

Thank you very much

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

If a computer is using a router, do I still need a software firewall?

Of the list of software firewall and antivirus you mentioned, what do you use?
I don't mind paying if the product is good.

Thanks again!

Just a router won't give you enough protection (we'll a one with NAT would but those won't give you inbound protection) so yes, I recommend the use of a firewall.

You seem to have TrendMicro firewall and antivirus curently in use....

Remember to only use 1 firewall and 1 antivirus at the same time.

If you wan't my favourites from my list:
AVG as antivirus
ZoneAlarm as firewall

You're very welcome :bigthumb:

As the problem appears to be resolved this topic has been archived. :)
