Description:

Win32.Palevo copies several malicious files to the profile folder and creates a registry entry without user consent. It also starts itself in background and connects to its malicious servers. It uses various methods to ensure that it gets started. It also uses folder icons for its executable files to make the user execute the files believing them to be folders.

Removal Instructions:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

• The file at "<$WINDIR>\Tasks\{22116563-108C-42c0-A7CE-60161B75E508}.job".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Win32.Palevo uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

• Delete the registry key "<$ENV(PalevoAT_path)>" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
• Delete the registry key "ICS5R7Y0OS" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
