Description:

this trojan runs in background, loads additional trojans from the internet, disables the Windows Security Center as well as common antivirus Software like McAfee and Norton.
It also hijacks the hostsfile and infects all locally saved html, htm and asp files. The trojan also changes the filetype association for exefiles and html files.
It uses various methods to get started at systemboot, such as registering itself as a service, starting via domainpolicies and systemstart entry.

Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

• Entries named "update82" and pointing to "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\update.exe".
• Entries named "ScanRegistry" and pointing to "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\update.exe".
• Entries named "NTdhcp" and pointing to "<$SYSDIR>\NTdhcp.exe".
• Entries named "ToP" and pointing to "<$WINDIR>\LSASS.exe".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\winmer.exe".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\wdm.exe".
• The file at "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\update.exe".
• The file at "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\updatexdx.exe".
• The file at "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\updatexdx1.exe".
• The file at "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\updatexdx24.exe".
• The file at "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\updatexx.exe".
• The file at "c:\188.exe".
• The file at "c:\ip.txt".
• The file at "<$WINDIR>\EXERT.exe".
• The file at "<$WINDIR>\LSASS.exe".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Internet Explorer\INTEXPLORE.com".
• The file at "<$WINDIR>\Debug\DebugProgram.exe".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\update2.exe".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\KB8964225.log".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\drivers\ksld.sys".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\NTdHcP.exe".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Common Files\INTEXPLORE.pif".
• The file at "<$LOCALSETTINGS>\Temp\g0ld.com".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CN.wAQdN uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

• The directory at "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update".
• The directory at "c:\newbuild".
• The directory at "c:\TODAYZTKING".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CN.wAQdN uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

• A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "WindowFiles", plus associated values.
• Delete the registry key "NetWorkLogon" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\".
• Delete the registry key "NetWorkLogon" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\".
• Delete the registry key "NetWorkLogon" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\".
• Remove "INTEXPLORE.com" from registry value "" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iexplore.exe\shell\open\command\".
• Remove "INTEXPLORE.com" from registry value "" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\shell\OpenHomePage\Command\".
• Remove "INTEXPLORE.com" from registry value "" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\command\".
• Remove "INTEXPLORE.pif" from registry value "" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew\command\".
• Delete the registry value "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\pp4.exe" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List\".
• Delete the registry value "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\pp4.exe" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List\".
• Delete the registry value "<$COMMONPROGRAMFILES>\update\pp4.exe" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List\".
• Delete the registry value "load=<$SYSDIR>\91di2fa.exe" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\".
• Remove "<$SYSDIR>\winmer.exe" from registry value "kernelcheck" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\explorer\run\".
• Remove "<$SYSDIR>\wdm.exe" from registry value "kernelfaultcheck" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\explorer\run\".
