help removing malware

I believe I have been infected with malware, and I can't seem to get rid of it. I've downloaded and ran spybot s&d, as well as ad-aware. I have McAfee and ran a full (not quick) scan with that. I've run a disk clean up as well.

About every 15-20 minutes, I get internet explorer window(s) opening, saying I have all these infected files on my machine. However, if I kill the IE process, the windows disappear. It loops between a "you're infected" message and one that says I should buy anti-virus software. I made note of the website listed at the top of the page, and I have done some searching about the site, which is "http::/lastspy.info" and have identified that it is, indeed malware, at least according to the Norton website.

Please note that the computer I am running on is a bit older, only running on 512 mb of RAM and a bit slower processor. It's a good computer though, just slow.

When I first ran spybot, it detected and removed about 250 items. Ad-aware has been able to only find one, and I had no viruses, that I can remember from the full system scan that I ran with McAfee. Oh joy, it just popped up again. Which reminds me, if I close the initial IE window before it finishes loading, I "catch it" in time and don't have to kill the IE process.

Per instructions on the site, I've made a backup of my registry and have run the Trend Micro program. Below you will find my HJT log information. Please help me.

While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

Your system is infected with the Koobface worm and maybe other things, not sure yet.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Go to Start > Run and type in MRT and press enter and let this program run.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
- Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
- At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
- If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
- Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

- When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
- Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
- When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
- Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.

Hi,

Please repost the HJT log, I cant read it the way you posted it.
- Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
- Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
- Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Submit Reply and not start a New Thread.
How are things running now ?

I'm sorry, I read it wrong, I thought it said to make sure it WAS checked.

I think it's running better, except I think I might have locked things down too tight now. I had to put *.yahoo.com as a trusted site just so we could check our yahoo email, and we can't get into gmail at all. I don't want to trust all these sites, but I'm not sure what I locked down that I locked it down THAT much. I know it's related to cookies, but I can't find any setting that would have done it...so I'm not sure what to do about it.

Hi,

Open IE and go to Tools> Internet Options > Security and make sure its not set to above Medium.

Run this program to make sure we did not miss anything.

Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
- DDS.com
- DDS.scr
- DDS.pif
- Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
- A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
- Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
- Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
- Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
