Description:

Win32.Nosok.b copies itself to your system directory and tries to connect to the internet. When connected to a server it waits for new orders to spy on the user. Win32.Nosok.b creates autorun entries in order to be launched at every system start. Those autoruns have misleading names like "winlogon" or "[system]".

Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

• Entries named "[system]" and pointing to "<$SYSDIR>\drivers\*.exe".
• Entries named "winlogon" and pointing to "<$PROFILE>\*.exe".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

• The file at "<$PROFILE>\mpr2.dat".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\ms_tcp.dll".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\svchost.exe".
• The file at "<$STARTUP>\userinit.exe".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\ms_tcp.dll".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Win32.Nosok.b uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

• Remove "<$SYSDIR>\drivers\services.exe" from registry value "Userinit" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\".
