The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "Qtrax" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:

Qtrax is malware that gets installed by fraudulent installers. Qtrax claims to be the first legal, free and worldwide music service. However the service is not available in all regions, for example Germany. Untrustworthy software is still advertised from within Qtrax. Qtrax also automatically starts once after a reboot. Qtrax claim can be considered a deception just to place advertising without giving any benefit to the user.

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer to locate and get rid of these entries.

• Products that have a key or property named "{84178AE8-C22D-48CB-A6BA-D116FD3FE469}".
• Products that have a key or property named "1752599684.portal.qtrax.com".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

• The file at "<$DESKTOP>\Qtrax Player.lnk".
• The file at "<$MYMUSIC>\Qtrax Media Library\BookmarkRadios.xml".
• The file at "<$MYMUSIC>\Qtrax Media Library\LinksVisited.xml".
• The file at "<$MYMUSIC>\Qtrax Media Library\QtraxMediaLibrary.qpl".
• The file at "<$MYMUSIC>\Qtrax Media Library\RadiosVisited.xml".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\application.xap".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\CleanQtrax.exe".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\Config.txt".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\ExecuteBatchFile.exe".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\InstallPlayer.exe".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\Silverlight.exe".
• The file at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\UninstallPlayer.exe".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMS>\Qtrax Player.lnk".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Qtrax uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

• The directory at "<$MYMUSIC>\Qtrax Media Library".
• The directory at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player".
• The directory at "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax".
• The directory at "<$PROGRAMS>\QTRAX".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Qtrax uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

• Delete the registry key "8EA87148D22CBC846AAB1D61DFF34E96" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\".
• Delete the registry value "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders\".
• Delete the registry value "<$PROFILE>\Qtrax\Player\" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders\".
• Delete the registry value "<$PROGRAMS>\QTRAX\" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders\".
• Delete the registry value "Qtrax" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\".

If Qtrax uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
