I didnt receive any windows disks when I bought this Dell computer. It is running Windows XP Pro.
A while ago, a friend gave me an installation disk for this OS. A few weeks ago (before I came to these forums), I tried to do a repair installation (you tell it to upgrade, even though its the same OS). When the screen comes up and I click "Install Windows", nothing happens. I tried it in normal and safe modes.
I scanned in safe mode and removed the 2 items. I then scanned again, and it came up clean.
If it is Dell, there should be a recovery partition included in hard drive which you can use if needed.
I vaguely remember reformatting and reinstalling windows of this hard drive. So I don't think there is a recovery partition now. I don't see it in "My Computer".
Would it show up in one of the diagnostic programs that we ran?
Usually it would show as D: drive.
If there is none, then you should ask for disks from Dell.
