Manual Removal Guide for Silent Guard

The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "Silent Guard" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Removal Instructions:

Start Menu:

Please remove the following items from your start menu.
To check where they are pointing to, right-click them and choose "Properties" from the context menu appearing.

• Groups named "Silent Guard".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\Imech.dll".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\ipopi.exe".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\IpServer.exe".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\.\sg.hlp".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\sgreadme.txt".
• The file at "<$SYSDIR>\SilentGuard.exe".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Silent Guard uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

• Delete the registry value "SilentGuard.exe" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\".
• Delete the registry key "Silent Guard" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adavi\".
• References to the file "imech.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
• References to the file "ipopi.exe" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
• References to the file "sgreadme.txt" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
• References to the file "System\sg.hlp" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
• References to the file "System32\sg.hlp" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
• References to the file "silent~1.exe" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.

If Silent Guard uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
