Apparently SpyBot is now also un-immunizing dudu.com. This unexplained removal of items from the HOSTS file is highly suspicious. It makes one wonder if they are removing them because they get...
Maybe they just never got a chance to do the research to learn the specifications of how Chrome implements this feature. Fortunately, Chromium is open-source, so they certainly have access to that...
If I were prone to paranoia, I would suspect that it is purposely letting those domains through for “some reason”. There is no reason for the immunization function to automatcally, and secretly...
Do you mean read-only? Yes, but that doesn’t matter, I don’t want to prevent Spybot from adding new items, I just want it to not automatically remove anything.
Actually, you don’t have to remove anything. The problem is that if you have those entries in the HOSTS file and then simply applying/adding the immunization will strip them out.
Do not un-check...
Yes, handling false-positives is tricky, but like I said, Spybot may not have been the one to put them in there, so it should not be removing them. Another way to think about it is that google.com...
It has nothing to do with the comments; in fact, I strip out comments, sort, and de-dupe the HOSTS file whenever a change is made.
The items you added were kept because they were not on Spybot’s...
It seems that when you apply Spybot’s immunization definitions, it will actually remove several items from the HOSTS file (and likely other locations as well).
I suspect that this is due to some...
That is absolutely the wrong design and the wrong thing to do. The HOSTS file does not belong to Spybot; it is a shared, system file that is accessible and modifiable by other applications, so...
Except that the entries in question were not between those lines. In fact, I always strip those lines after an update (or any change to the HOSTS file), then sort the anti-phishing/etc. lines, and...
I just performed an update to SpybotSnD and noticed that in addition to adding a bunch of items to my HOSTS file, it actually removed the following items:
andromedical.com
mp3musicdirect.com...
From what I’ve read, what happens is that if you type something into the Omnibar of Chrome and press enter, it sends that string to Google which returns your search results. If you precede that...
Chromium is the open-source browser based on WebKit that Google founded and is available to anyone. Chrome is the official Google brand browser built from Chromium. It’s sort of like...
The icon and about box. :D:
As far as I can tell, Chrome includes the Google Updater (for which I don’t think the source is available), and Chrome is released less often because they have to...
I wouldn’t install it either, I would unzip it. ;)
A big wave? That’s news to me, and I am a frequent tester/debugger.
What about Chromium? Is that bad too? They are open-source, so if you...
Chrome and Safari use the SafeBrowsing(Bloom) databases, however like themes, I don't think that it is documented for external modification yet.
That’s probably because of the restrictions. If you have to invest heavily before being allowed to do something, then you will probably not do it bad when given the opportunity.
Appropriateness is nothing compared to guarding against all the exploits and vulnerabilities in media files these days. I figured that was the primary reason for no custom avatars.
Perhaps a...
I opened one and saw that it contained the files in fpfix.zip (FPFix.sbs and AdvWhite.sbs), then compared them and found them to be binary-identical to fpfix.zip.
It seems to be fixed now....
I just noticed that there are several copies of the fpfix.zip file in my %temp% directory with random names (eg xjqs936y.zip, ghvqb123.zip, etc.), so it is indeed being downloaded but getting “lost”.
They’ll fix it soon enough, so unless you intend to do a scan today and expect to get the false-positives that are fixed in the update (you probably won’t get them), then there’s no need to rush.
...
Actually, don’t extract it, just save the ZIP file (fpfix.zip) to the Updates directory and run the updater. It will detect the zip file and extract it for you (after doing its checks since one or...
That’s a bug in a recent update (not the false positive fix). There’s a post about it.
Close Spybot

Like I said, it’s just a bug in a recent update that causes 888.com to be removed from the protection. They’ll fix it soon.
Unless you intend on going to 888.com or visiting sites that link to it...
Yup, there’s a problem with it (perhaps it has something to do with the slash in the name—although it’s not in the filename).
What you can do in the meantime is to manually download the file and...
Yes, you’re all right. A recent update causes 888.com to be deleted after being added, so that immunization does not “stick”.
