I will certainly take your advice! Have a great weekend!:D:
I have NO idea who you are or even where you are but THANK YOU doesn't begin to cover it!!!!
You've saved my life & I REALLY appreciate you spending your Saturday helping me!!!!
Never mind my last post. I went ahead & did what seemed correct. I'm doing a system restore right now. It wouldn't let me go back to June (I wanted to do 6/29) so I'm doing 7/2. It's a system...
I've gotten to the point where you say to reboot & shut down properly. We disabled my HDD.....do I need to do something before rebooting??
I'm sitting at the command prompt. Can I just turn it...
This burn took a lot longer than the last one! Roxio & Memorex
I went to ntfs4dos & said yes.
Now what?
It worked!!!:D:
I have a menu....now what????
I'm re-burning it just in case there was something wrong
There was an exe file on both CD's that worked. There isn't one on the ubcd one.
The Fix-It CD loaded fine.
The other CD (from the Method 1, etc. thread) I just put in, told it to boot from CD instead of HDD & it worked. The Fix-It CD went as well. Ket me try the Fix-It one again & see if anything has...
Here's what's on the CD.
Folders:
boot
custom
dosapps
images
isolinux
menus
syslinux
tools
My thoughts exactly
Chi-Va............
I'm getting an error that there are no bootable devices!!!!!!!!!
OK....I'll try to boot from the CD>
I will to SlmJon/winlogon
OK, I've changed the boot order and disabled the HDD.
I can go in to setup as it's starting to boot & change the boot order. Will that work?
Thanks - I can't find anything close to copying an iso file except "burn an image". That did give me 12 folders with a bunch of subfolders but I don't seem to have an executable in the root that...
Also, a bunch of sub-folders.
I'm starting to feel real stupid here. My choices are: under "copy", I can "copy a disc", "burn an image" or "save an image". I chose burn an image & now the CD has 12 folders, autorun.inf,...
I'm using Roxio Creator. It starts when I send the iso file to the CD. It goes through it's machinations then says all is ok but all I have is the iso file on there.
OK.....what the ---- am I doing wrong. I've never had this kind of trouble burning a disc. My XP is ignoring this disc. I looked at it under my computer on my other machine and all that's on it is...
OK... I didn't go far enough in burning it. Give me a sec
No....I'm not.
I downloaded from the link & got ubcd411.exe. I unzipped it to a folder & got ubcd411.iso. If that's right something else must wrong with my computer. It won't boot from this...
OK...I think I'm here.
I'm still trying to get a CD to burn correctly. For whatever reason, it worked on it for nearly 10 min then said it failed. Give me another minute or so.
I'll download it now. I'll get back.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!
Sorry, guess I forgot about that. It hasn't said that but the once. I had to scroll back up to see that message. It went on to the "Select partition" & that's as far as I could go.
Ok, you're saying I don't need the Ultimate Boot CD - just the NTFS4Dos???
Also, I'm confused about what you're saying about the backup. My network isn't recognizing the Inspiron.
Yes, It's a Dell Inspiron 8600 running XP.
I think the program I downloaded is called Windows Registry Edit Utility Floppy. It was from the thread that had Method 1, Method2, etc. Is that the ...
Yes, it's empty.
I'm guessing Windows is still there because it will boot to login then logout. If I leave it sitting at the login screen it goes to the screensaver. If I leave it too long on...
Yes, that's what was displayed. There wasn't a "1" to select but I did enter "1" anyway. It just comes back like I didn't enter anything.
When I boot to the CD, it goes through it's initial stuff then stops asking for "select partition by number". The above "list" says:
Disks:
Disk /dev/sda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
Candidate...
Thanks, guys, for the responses. I've read so much on here & at the MS website that I'm totally confused & out of my element.
I tried the "Method 2".....didn't work.
I went out & bought...
There was no winlogon (Would it be called that in Vista??)
I did a program update on both machines before I ran S&D. After shutting down the XP & booting the next morning is went everything went south on it. The Vista machine hasn't been turned off since...
Hey Guys,
I'm still stuck too. My XP is toast & I guess I'm gonna try to buy the Fix-It software. My Vista machine (I'm on it now) went through the same install with Spybot but I haven't shut it...
Thanks for the input. I tried the blog suggestions. Method 1 requires that the "dead" XP computer shows up on the network. It doesn't since I can't log in. Method 2 went OK until it got to...
I've tried booting from my XP disc. Using F12, I selected boot from CD, it ignores me completely & tries to boot from HD. I can't find a way to get to the recovery console.
I have an XP laptop & a Vista laptop. The XP I've shut down & restarted....it's toast! The Vista also had the update but I've not shut it down since the update so is that why I'm still here? I'm...
I have to agree with Walker. Thousands of people trust Spybot to keep them safe....NOT destroy their machines. Mine is also toast. Please quit arguing over whose fault this is....IT IS NOT OURS! ...
