I agree. Here's a concept another came up with sometime ago.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?&t=63599
Regarding the hosts file, does it allow to optimize the hosts file, by placing 9...
I had been pointed in the right direction, right after I started this thread.
I do appreciate your feedback. :)
No wonder I couldn't find Spybot's entry in the registry. I didn't...
I hope you folks don't mind this question and don't consider it an abuse from my part.
I've been trying to create a context menu for an application, so that when I right-click the Desktop, I...
I was checking Spybot S&D in Process Explorer, and it lacks ASLR support. This obviously includes the dll file SDHelper.dll, which is loaded to IE and Explorer.
Is there any technical reason why...
Hello,
Is there a reason why Users group has Write and Delete permissions in C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy folder?
Thanks
I actually liked the simplicity of the image you created.
Spybot UI should be easy that even the average user could easily navigate through the UI, and at least understand basic things.
I guess...
Hi,
How can I delete my account? I couldn't find anything in the User CP.
Thanks
I was looking in relative's systems, and I also see the same error message. It doesn't seem to happen often, though.
Instead of having users e-mailing you, can't you provide an update that would...
I don't see any problems, but it may not be reserved to private use in the future.
I guess it depends on what the user wants. But, Spybot should only come with two "default" values: 127.0.0.1 or...
Yes, correct. I was thinking of HostsMan, but since there may be others I'm not familiar with, I didn't want to be unfair. lol
One of the reasons I'd like Spybot to do it is simply the fact that...
First, I'd like to provide a suggestion.
I'd like for Spybot 2.0 to handle the HOSTS file as follows.
To decrease the HOSTS file size, no comments should be added to the HOSTS file. I haven't...
Was it implemented? I didn't find it. Where is it placed?
Thanks
-edit-
OK. I see it. But, we can only change one at a time.
What do you think about searching for a certain value, type...
It would help to know your web browser. That way we can provide specific instructions for it.
Could Safer Networking share more news on Spybot 2.0 development? And, please no comments like "Oh, it's going OK", etc.
Why this delay to release a beta version? As I previously mentioned, this...
I guess you're familiar with VirusTotal service. What I'd like to suggest is for Safer Networking team to provide a similar service, only for Spybot - Search & Destroy.
This way, any Spybot -...
Does it make any difference having this service enabled and running automatically, if only using immunization features?
I believe it makes Security Center/Action Center interact with the user when...
Why do you care so much about that useless review? It says nothing others don't know already: it's behind in malware detection, when compared, for example, with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. But, only...
The thing is: Safer Networking team has mentioned more than once that they don't see users security that way. They'll keep it for free for everyone, without reduced protection features.
How is Spybot bloated? Because it provides passive protection? I don't see it as bloated.
Also, what conflicts with other security software? Can't I just say that other security software conflicts...
You were saying? ;)
Because they have both free and paid-for versions? Why should SUPERAntispyware team offer real-time protection in their free version?
Comparing both free products - Spybot and SAS - Spybot offers...
And, why the heck should Safer Networking remove real-time protection, either passive or active, from Spybot - Search & Destroy?
With all due respect, on-demand tools mean squat. Why the heck...
munaf does make a valid point, though. Spybot needs to be reprogrammed - Spybot 2.0 never seems to arrive :( - to better protect Joe and Jane Doe, who is not even aware of tools like the one you...
Could you guys let us know what is the current status? Any estimate time of release of a first beta version? What is the situation regarding Spybot 2.0 text? Is it final? Or, are you guys still going...
But, have they done it with Safer Networking's consent? At least, they're saying it so.
My only doubt is that if such version was in fact done with Safer Networking's consent, such information...
Hello Sandra
Thanks for replying. Just to clarify one more thing: For what I can see it has nothing to do with this one
-http://portableapps.com/news/2011-01-03_-_spybot_portable_1.6.2...
I just came across this portable version: -http://majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_Portable_d6734.html
I haven't downloaded, and therefore didn't check it. But, I couldn't find any...
Well, that is exactly the problem (for Safer Networking). There are already better alternatives for quite sometime now. Spybot stayed behind. Only weekly updates against an aggressive malware...
Reality is, this thread was started at 2009-08-02. More than a year ago. I'm sure the news about version 2.0 came before this.
So, does it take more than a year to release a beta version? And,...
Finally some words, but why nothing new so far? I do understand the fact Safer- Networking wishes to release a bug free version, but it would be expectable, I believe, some information stating the...
Yeah, it's kind of concerning that nothing ever arrived. I mean, all this time?
I used to have Spybot under a lot of consideration, and still do advice it family members to immunize IE, but... is...
When searching for something related to malware, I came across this website -www.safer-networking.com- (The - is to prevent anyone to click on it.)
I still haven't entered it, because I'm not...
Nearly one more month has passed and still nothing ???
By the time the new Spybot comes out, its technology will already come out as being obsolete.
By the way, Chromium (any browser based on it as well) allows to map domains to 127.0.0.1, for example, like:
--host-rules="MAP * 127.0.0.1, EXCLUDE forums.spybot.info","MAP *.spybot.info...
Not only that. MBAM, SAS, and others, they update their definitions in a daily basis. Spybot doesn't. Giving the reality of nowadays, updating definitions once a week, is just damn ridiculous.
...
Considering that a long time has passed (pretty much a year or more), since the I first new Spybot 2.0 was going to be released, I sincerely hope that it will be better than SUPERAntispyware and...
I agree. I use it for immunizations and regular check-ups along side malwarebytes.
I don't know whether or not it will be done (I don't remember by now), but it would also need to update it's...
Hello,
Are you running from a LUA (Limited User Account?
There's been quite a time since I've been running Spybot with TeaTimer. Now, I only use it for immunizations and regular check-ups.
...
Thank you for adding that additional information.
Regarding your two questions.
1 - Yes, it seems to be playing well with a large optimized HOSTS file.
2 - As of now, Spybot will add entries...
This is something I wanted to ask long time ago, but I guess never reminded of doing it so.
Does Spybot team actually removes unresolvable entries from the HOSTS file in each update?
Thanks
Did you check if you got this entry in your HOSTS file? 127.0.0.1 localhost
If not, edit your hosts file with notepad and add it before every other entry.
I am wondering what one has to do to help translate Spybot?
I'm aware that Spybot's already available in my language, but, it is faulty. There's a mixture of english and my own.
Or is it a...
Is this the fix Microsoft found out, and promised to look at?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969938/en-us
If I well understand it, they say to contact the software vendor (Safer Networking) to...
I do understand how Spybot works.
Perhaps, I didn't explain my self the best way I could, and I don't know if know I will also.
Spybot protects by two ways:
- Passively, by placing entries...
I see. I don't know much about XML files, but, it was just an idea. But, it could be a text file or whatever.
The current solution places such entries at the registry, which bloats the registry....
Another solution would be to place the domains entries in a XML file, for example. Rather than placing them at the Windows registry.
Of course, this XML file would need to be well protected by...
Thanks for sharing.
What does it do exactly? I mean, what does it do, that makes it possible not to have to undo immunizations?
One better solution, considering, also, that the Restricted Sites Zone entries go all to the Windows registry, would be for this Spybot's feature to work as an in-the-cloud service.
