Avira AntiVir is installed, this scans OK.

MalwareBytes AntiMalware free version was installed, but uninstalling it makes no difference. This also had an error during scanning.

I have run Spybot v1.6.2 on a Japanese PC and got what looked like 100s of these errors:

"Error during check.....[a spyware name].... Unmatched"

I had the same problem as RollingThunder, with Firefox 3 and Spybot 1.6, and found a partial solution. See RollingThunder's thread:

I had the same problem as RollingThunder - using Firefox 3, many items were left unprotected.
