Okay, updates completed except for Spybot 2.0 because it said don't uninstall my version while working on a problem.

Going through the process of uninstalling/reinstalling updates there's about a dozen.

Computer is running fine now. The original symptoms, a window randomly popping up showing "Installing Windows Update", game windows minimizing on their own, and Spybot detecting it, are all gone.
