This is more than likely just a "Download Server" issue. (like md usa spybot fan said)

Just choose a diferent server from the list and download the updates again.

The patch you got elsewhere specifically targets "TeaTimer.exe" in the default install path, hence why it worked.

Have you tried re-installing you graphic card drivers?

You could also try removing your graphics card drivers altogether so that windows defaults back to its own VGA drivers...

Are you sure there are no other applications on your PC blocking Spybot from connecting to the internet? Such as a software-firewall? Just a thought...
