Default "Not Responding" on system shutdown

Spybot runs just fine for me. However, when I shutdown my system, I get a box saying Shutting Down Spybot, followed by a box saying This Program Is Not Responding. I have to click a button (sorry, don't remember exactly what it says) to make Spybot stop in order for shutdown to proceed.

    What gives?

    Thanks in advance!

I normally shutdown (Exit) Spybot – Search & Destroy after completing update, scans, etc. I also normally close all applications that are running before turning off or restarting my system.

However, I left Spybot – Search & Destroy running and shutdown my system (Windows XP – Home) to see if I could duplicate the problem you are having and I could not.

Can you provide additional details? Does this always happen or does it only happen periodically and if so under what circumstances?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I do not have Spybot (or any other program) running when I shut down. Like you said, I shut down all programs before shutting down the pc. Except of course for background stuff like Norton AV, ZoneAlarm, etc. This happens every time I shut down, whether I've run Spybot or not. TeaTimer does run in the background, maybe it's TeaTimer that's not responding and it just says Spybot? (which would then raise the same question of Why?)

The next time you receive the "This program is not responding" message, please copy down the program or task that is not responding and post it.

Is that actually "Spybot - Search & Destroy" as opposed to "Spybot Search and Destroy"?

What Windows Operating System are you running and if it is a system with multiple user accounts, are you logged on to the same user account when the problem occurs that you installed Spybot-S&D from?

    Also post the following:
    • Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Tools > System Startup.
    • Place the cursor on the listing that is displayed, right click on the listing and select "Copy to Clipboard".
    • Paste (Ctrl+V) the Clipboard to the post.

Yes, it says Spybot - Search & Destroy.
Running on Windows XP Pro, only one user profile.

What did you want from the startup list? The entire list?

Yes, I wanted to look at the entire list.

Something must be causing "Spybot - Search & Destroy" to start and run hidden. It most likely is a startup entry or a scheduled tack entry. What I don't understand is how you are able to start and run Spybot manually if the application is already running.

Okay, here's the list. Yeah, when I open Spybot, I get a "Loading" progress bar. And the Not Responding problem happens regardless of whether I've opened Spybot and regardless of how long it's been since last reboot.

Check in Scheduled Tasks for "Spybot - Search & Destroy". Click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks. Is "Spybot - Search & Destroy" listed?
