I don't use that fix very often, but it seems to have found the file. See what Symantec has to say. I would like to get another opinion, if you do not own SuperAntiSpyware and don't intend to purchase it, I would uninstall it.

Follow the instructions in this link, make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything that is found and post the scan report:
    http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

I would also check Symantec carefully, make sure it updates ok, and that there are no issues with it. Malware will often corrupt AV's, firewalls, etc. just enough so they appear to be working.

Post a new HJT log and the AVG Anti-Spyware scan results and let me know how things are running.

    Thanks...Phil

Thank you for the suggestions. I have re-enabled tea timer. So far it has not gotten into that endless loop as it did before. Spybot did find a few things on another run of it. The computer does seem to be running a little better now though.

Here is my latest HJT log, do you think I am finally rid of this thing?

Yeah, I think we have killed the malware and good job sticking in there I am sure you are aware there is no script and that every infection is different depending on the junk they infect you with. This is my suggestion now.

    1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

    2) Complete the instructions and post that AVG Anti-Spyware scan results I requested in my last post. That will clean areas we can not see.

    3) I suggest you stop by PCPitStop and run a free diagnostic on your computer to see what it reports.
    Diagnostic: http://www.pcpitstop.com/
    Results: http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=6
TechExpress - Step by Step Instructions
    http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress/howto1.asp
I would appreciate a link to the test results, I may spot something.

    4) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
    http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Make sure TeaTimer is disabled, it will block the changes you want to make)

    5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(If you don't use the HP re-directs I suggest you check and remove them, they are not making your browser run faster. I am assuming MSN is your HomePage)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

If everything goes well, I really do not need to see another HJT log. I would like to see the AVG Anti-Spyware Scan Report. I will give you all the information now.

To help speed you up and make you safer:
    http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/m...wcomputer.html
    http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/m...revention.html

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Here is my PC Pitstop link:

Looking at the results, You can see you need more disk space, follow all the instructions in the links I posted, then test again to see if the maintenance helped, but let's face facts, you need more disk space. Open MyComputer, then the C drive. Right click then click Properties. Post the used and free space. This is what the diagnostic says:
Drive C:\ has only 12 percent of its space available.
Drive D:\ has only 13 percent of its space available.

You also have major issues in your security settings, follow the links and follow the advice. If you run into questions, since the forum is free (I also help with logs there at times) register and post your questions, they work with the reports all of the time and will be better at giving you answers.

You need to have running one good antivirus program, one good firewall and at least one good spyware program that runs in realtime. AVG Anti-Spyware will give you realtime protection until the trail is over. If you do not wish to purchase it, then read the links for a good freeware program. I can suggest you look at this one:
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx

I cannot thank you enough for all of your help. I would have had to re-format the drive for sure. And even then may have gotten another virus fairly quickly.

I am happy to make a donation, let me know the best way to do that (I want to make sure at least a portion of it goes into a beer, pizza, and coffee fund to keep you guys going )

    Best,

    Ash

Thanks Ash for your kind words, we all volunteer our services so no fund I am sure it costs plenty to keep a site like this up and running. Any donation will be appreciated and you can do that here:
