    Default IE/Google start page war?

I have the Google toolbar installed and of course I set Google as the default for everything. One day I started receiving warnings from SpyBot that my First Start Page had been changed back to the Microsoft one...I clicked deny change and "remember this descision"...and immediately I had a start page war on my hands:

    (from most recent log)

4/11/2007 3:10:03 PM Denied (based on user blacklist) value "Search Page" (new data: "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch") changed in Browser page!

It's impossible to right click on the SpyBot icon and select anything from the menu before the next notification causes the menu to disappear.

I solved the problem the first time by uninstalling/reinstalling SpyBot. This latest time I was able to solve the problem by killing teatimer.exe from task manager so I could right click on SpyBot and edit the blacklist.

And now that I have mostly switched over to FireFox I can edit my Google toolbar settings to allow IE to do what it wants...that solves my problem, but...

This is an issue that needs to be addressed in a future version of SpyBot. I had an endless loop on my hands that prevented me from easily accessing any of SpyBot's settings. Surely this has happened to other people, but I was not easily able to find a solution online...I had to work most of it out for myself.

I found this to work for me:
Open Spybot, then click Mode up top, then select Advanced Mode, say yes to the prompt. Then, over to the left select Tools, then Resident.Remove the checkmark from beside Resident "Teatimer",that should shutdown Teatimer.Wait for a minute or two, then reboot and once logged back into Windows,go back into Spybot->Tools->Resident and recheck Resident once again.Teatimer should pop back up in the notification area, without the flashing boxes,so then you can rightclick to edit your Black & White list.

I have to agree with damascus on this. The endless loop is a real pain. Hopefully it can be corrected in a future version of TeaTimer.exe.
