I recently had alot of malware on my pc, inc smitfraud-C toolbar888, I managed to clean some of it using Clean Up, XoftSpySe, Spybot and AVG Anti-Spyware & Anti Virus. I googled name of the toolbar & saw this forum answering "Mel05 2006-11-24, 07:51 smitfraud-C toolbar888" with simular prob. Fllowed instructions she received from you guys [changing all program settings as suggested] It appears I have IE back but would like u to check this out & let me know what i need/don't need to fix, This is what I've done so far, inc logs:

Spybot in safe mode (with Resident tea timer unchecked)

    Hi

Download Lspfix. Extract(unzip) it to its own folder.
Disconnect from the internet, and close all browser windows.
    Run LSPFix.
Click the "I know what I'm doing" button. In the left hand pane, hilite all instances of rsvp32_2.dll (and nothing else), move them to the "Remove" pane and by clicking the >> button. Click Finish.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
    • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

      o Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

    Hi

    Delete this:

    C:\autoexec.exe

    Empty VundoFix Backups folder

    Empty Recycle Bin

    Otherwise looking good

    Still problems?

Done three things u suggested in last post.
I don't think those words "otherwise looking good" ever sounded so good. Thankyou. I will run avg, spybot again just to make sure & if any thing looks wrong I'll post.

    much appreciation
    zoe.
