    Default Smitfraud -c 888 Toolbar...

what a sonofabitch this one is eh...

As is happening with many people, S&D kept finding it but couldn't remove it...

Having browsed over this site (nice to know there are still good people to be found in the world) and gleaned off some advice I *think* that with a combination of smitfraudfix, vundofix, AVG Anti-Rootkit and Trend's Housecall I've managed to remove the offending Malware. However I just wondered if one of you more knowledgeable types out there would mind having a quick look over my HiJackThis logs and let me know if my system is indeed as squeaky clean as I hope...

Many Thanks in advance for any help / assistance -> keeps up the good work guys and gals...

Welcome to the forum, I hate to have to tell you this but even though that Smitfraud toolbar may indicate additional infections, it is a false positive that shows in Spybot unusally because the program needs an update. In this case, the infection you were fighting is called
Virtumonde, here is a little news about the junk: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic18610.html
    http://www.revenews.com/wayneporter/...l_network_now/
Since there is a class action involving this one, you may want to view this information:
    http://www.networkworld.com/news/200...-unravels.html
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog

    See this: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=8668

    Now this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.p...80&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< badly out of date, download the newest version of Java and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

Now do this: You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif
Please use the information in the following link to place HJT in a permanent, safe folder, I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

It appears that you have killed this infection, let's clean and see how you are running:

    1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
    http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

    2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
    - Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
    - To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
    - You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

    3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    4) Since you have AVG Anti-Spyware onboard, follow the instructions in this link, delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

    5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post that scan report and a new HJT log. Let me know how you are running.
