Help stop my pop ups!

I am not computer smart at all but I do know that I want popups to stop! They keep poping up when I'm not even on the internet??? "Windows has found 55 critical system errors, Download registry from wxx.fix-ms.com. Install registr. update, Run regist. update, reboot, Failure to at now may lead to system failure. I have received as many as 26 to "x" out of within an hour. It's driving me crazy! I have ran 2-3 Spybot Search & Destroy missions, immunized, did Disk Cleanup in my "C" drive and deleted all backup files, whether regular or internet. Please someone explain to me as if I were "5" what to do. Thanks!!! D.Tracy
