Default Scan time increase -Bookmark checking

After the Spybot 2007-07-18 updates the time it takes to do a "Check for problems" seem to have increased radically. It appears that a significant portion of the increase is due to bookmark checking. After checking the current user's bookmarks:
    • Running bot-check (69995/69995 Internet Explorer – username - Bookmark)

It appears to check for the following:
    • Running bot-check (69995/69995 Internet Explorer - .DEFAULT - Bookmark)
    • Running bot-check (69995/69995 Internet Explorer - S-1-5-18 - Bookmark)

If these checks occurred in the past, they were done so quickly that I never realized they were being done. Now these checks are each taking as long as the checking of the current user's bookmarks. I have no "Favorites" except in the user account.

    thanks for reporting,

as of now I have not been able to recreate this behavior with the current 1.4 or the 1.5beta.
Does anyone else experience this issue?

    Yodama:

I'm sorry that I didn't follow up with another post, but the problem appears to have disappeared after the 2007-07-25 updates.

Actually I started to write a follow up right after the 2007-07-25 updates but decided I would wait and see if I had the time to restore the 2007-07-18 updates to see if it was the updates themselves or something else. I just have had the time yet.

md usa spybot fan, thank you for your feedback on this issue. We will look for this behavior when we make some larger changes to detections that are related to checking bookmarks.

I have been experiencing this problem for a couple of months using 1.4 on Windows 98se. When I first noticed this repeated bookmark scanning (in June) a scan took 14 minutes. I scanned the other day and left the computer - the scan took 35 minutes! The scan I did prior to the last one also took a long time and I aborted the scan.

If there is a way to bypass the bookmark scanning I would also like to know how.

    Sincerely, Libra

    Default bookmark hangup

I have the newest update I think-- 11/29/07
and mine also works fine until the end, and it gets stuck on all my bookmarks IE, Opera, Firefox etc, and I don't use some of these anymore.

I thought it was just my congested system until I saw this post, and since I like spybot, AND ITS FREE, I wasn't going to say anything, but if there is something I can do to give it a kick when it gets stuck, I'd like to know. thanks

I think it's not really the bookmarks, just the last parts of the scan where the bookmarks are the last status message from before.

What exactly have you used for the "Download files directory" setting?
Cleaning up your temporary folders (even if they're not in the list above) might also speed up things a lot here.

    PepiMK:

My download settings are to documents, if that's what you mean.

Anyway, I ran it again, and this time it only stuck a couple of minutes at the end which probably isn't sticking at all, but organizing. Maybe the first time around it has to orient itself, I don't know, but it's fine now. thanks

    zzeus:

I'll assume that you are running Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 that this original post referred to (go into Spybot > Help > About to check). If you upgrade to Spybot 1.5, I believe that you will find that the bookmark check runs in a fraction of the time it took under Spybot 1.4.
