cannot update

hi im running vista() my spybot wont update anymore,it just hangs on the search for a server,any idea what to do

There are manual updates available on this page,if you're behind on updates,you could use them to update in the meantime:

This updates the detection rules. Only needed if you do not want to use the update function integrated into Spybot-S&D.

Could you post part of your updates log?Open Spybot,click update,click show log,highlight some lines near the end of it,then copy and paste it here.

When you go to update Spybot,does it show you any error messages,or does it just hang indefinately?

Could you do me a favor?Could you click on this link with Internet Explorer,and if a box shows up asking whether you want to Open,Save or Cancel,please hit Cancel.Then,let me know what happened when you clicked on the link.

Looks like the title of this thread,maybe.I would have to guess,that since your log shows Spybot hasn't even been able to download an update info file since July 25/07,and you cannot get the update info file even when you click that link,that maybe something on your computer is preventing you from getting updates from safer-networking.org.
Usually,if it's a problem with a firewall or proxy settings,you get an error.
What do you have for a firewall,if you don't mind my asking?
I'm not sure if either applies,but you could try what is listed in this thread:

Well,I've never seen that Socket Error with Spybot before:
